What They Say
Following the ethereal, soaring musical brilliance of "Haibane Renmei," composer Kou Otani rightfully steals the spotlight again with another marvelous, atmospheric soundtrack that takes listeners across ocean-surrounded cities, to the futuristic, all-purpose, crime-fighting agencies found in "Daphne in the Brilliant Blue Original Soundtrack." Flowing with 26 crisp and rich instrumentals, this CD also includes the TV size versions of the opening theme, "Blue Wing of Tomorrow" and the ending song "The time when I called your name."

Music from the new science-fiction adventure series "Daphne in the Brilliant Blue" available on DVD from Geneon in March 2005, features composition and arrangement by Kou Otani (Haibane Renmei, Outlaw Star, Gundam Wing, The SoulTaker, You're Under Arrest) as well as a full-color insert booklet with lyrics and song titles translated in English, as well as romanized lyrics!

The Review!
The overall feel I get from this disc is one of Northern European island influence. Some of the orchestration is VERY Celtic, and that appeals deeply to me personally, as that is a thick portion of my heritage. I also sense a little of the more dramatic orchestrations from Sailor Moon (the anime...the films in particular, not the sentai show)as well. The show itself was not terribly well received, but the music is a treasure. Some of the tracks are light and ethereal, some are chewier, meatier compositions, but the flow is just right and the necessity of the anime to the enjoyment of the music is next to nothing. Don't let this one slip by you!

Best Track: Mysterious Girls. Over the years of reviews, I've shown a predilection towards ambient tracks, and this one is masterfully rendered. A wonderful watercolor ride!
Skip-it Track: Feeling Helpless... They finally wrote a waltz I can't stand. Still, it could be so much worse.
Ration: 4.5 out of 5
