Daredevil & Defenders in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel has released the news that their multiple Netflix series will be in the same cinematic universe as their films. This means that everything that happens, either on TV or at the movies is one connecting story. This, again, proves that Marvel is ahead of Warner Brothers and DC Comics, who have no connection between their TV properties and any of their films (to date).

Joe Quesada broke this news on Kevin Smith’s "Fatman on Batman" podcast.

There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies. They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.”

Quesada also spoke about what kind of heroes these Netflix characters are going to be.

"Although these are superhero stories, this is different now. This is the street level…this is the street level noir side of the Marvel Universe. Something that you haven’t really, really seen in any of our Marvel movies, and probably more ground level, than I think you’ve seen. This is not like us doing Batman, Dark Knight or any of that stuff. This is very Marvel doing street level superheroes.”

So just how far along are the Netflix adventures?

The scripts are coming in. They are pretty fantastic. They’re really emotional. They’re very, very original. But at the same time, it is Daredevil. It is Matt Murdock. We will eventually, hopefully start casting really, really soon, but I’m very, very excited about it.”

The next question is for you Maniacs. Will you binge watch these episodes or watch them one at a time?

These TV series will change the landscape of TV. Mark my words.

Netflix has the luxury of binge watching. How many times do big fans get pissed when their shows go on a long break or ever you have to wait 1 whole week for the episode. I'm feeling that with GoT. Those episodes go by so fast, I finish them and say "that's it?"

We are in the binge-watch era. The Marvel TV shows will be big events. No disrespect to Orange is the New Black and House of Cards (good shows but not super must-see), the Marvel shows, tied to the MCU, big budget, will be huge.

 Thank god, more actual Super-Heroes.

Love what Marvel is doing but so far this version of the Marvel Universe has been pretty boring.  Don't get me wrong love the movies so far BUT what is happening with these people in-bwteeen the movies - nothing?? Earth only has 2 Super Heroes (Cap and Hulk).  Cap inbetween movies is a guy with a day job.  Hulk is Bruce Banner acting as Tony Starks private thearapist.  The only thing actually comic-book like and perminent on Earth was SHIELD and they got rid of that.  Tony Start blew up all his armours and basically quit right after having to face actual aliens - now just a randon rich guy with a company??  Falcon is just some dude with a stolen EXO-suit.  Black-Window / Hawkeye - mercineries (now) with some interesting gimicks / outfits.

This universe really needs some perminent street level Super Heroes...something making the universe actually resemble a comic book.

I want Moon Knight too. That guy is apeshit crazy, but kind of cool too.

If DC doesn't tie in GA and Flash, that will be pretty lame. I like what Marvel is doing with Netflix. I do wonder how the dump a whole series on you style is going to work. I guess it has the potential to build more buzz and make money faster? But then you have to wait 51 weeks to get more? I like Hemlock Grove, but it feels like forever waiting for more episodes. It's more than a year later and they still haven't added more episodes. Anyway, Marvel still keeps doing great things.

Mikemc2,yes Tony blew up his armor, but he also collected his robot arm buddy and said at the end of his "therapy session" that he was Iron Man. And the proceedure to blow up his armor was called blank slate. Which implies a starting over. I suspect he is redesigning the Iron Man armor. And Cap doesn't have a day job

he went renegade with Falcon to track down Bucky. And while Banner was acting as Tony's therapist, Tony hired Banner at the end of the Avengers to his Science Division. So they all are all doing things between films and presumeably helping people as heroes when needed.

All that being said I am looking forward to this. In addition if the universe is connected it means that guest appearances can happen anywhere between this new show, Marvel Agents of SHIELD and the movies, which is cool.

If these shows become big hits on Netflix I could see them making the jump to the big screen.

This will be so good. I don't have Netflix yet but will get it for this. I just didn't want to pay for cable, premium channels and pay for a video streaming service. But this is well worth it. I hope Hulu or Amazon Prime don't come up with shows I just gotta have.

Yeah, itll be good to have more superpowered heroes running around. Spider-Man's not there so there should be other guys stopping bank robbers and muggers.

If DC doesn't bring in Arrow and Flash for JL they are idjits. And I'd love to see Coulson and his gang show up in a Defenders situation.

I'm guessing they won't dump them all at once. Perhaps they will have Luke Cage up for months 1-3, then pop Iron Fist month 4-6, Jessica Jones month 7-9, etc...

So in essence, you don't have to wait too long because you get a constant Marvel fix. Every few months, as opposed to popping all 4 series at once. I thought I read Defenders would be the season ender as they all reunite to form the group.

At the current level of everything Marvel that is being put out, I will devour these as fast as they are released.

Moz72 4/30/2014 9:20:14 AM

Marvel should start crossing over more characters on Agents of SHIELD, like they did with Lady Sif. Romanov(Black Widow) gets mentioned so many times I 'm surprised Scarlett Johansen hasn't made a cameo or guest spot.
