With Daredevil, Power Man, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist arriving on Netflix, each with their own series next year, we knew more news was to follow. The next bit of news to arrive is who will take charge of each of these comic book heroes. The Wrap broke an exclusive story yesterday that Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, Cabin in the Woods) is in talks to helm the “Daredevil” series.

No official statement by Disney/ Marvel has been made at this time. Drew Goddard’s people also have no comment on the news.

Goddard is a self-professed ‘Daredevil’ buff whose interest in the character is well known. ‘You’re talking to a guy who had quotes from Daredevil painted on his wall while growing up,’ Goddard told Collider earlier this year. ‘Even when I was 18, I still had the blood red door with the, ‘have shown him that a man without hope is a man without fear.’ That was what I loved and so it’s the sort of thing that if we can find the right project, I would love to do it.’

Goddard, who is currently developing the sci-fi movie ‘The Martian’ for 20th Century Fox”.

Sounds like Goddard may be the right man to tackle “The Man without Fear”. Sound off below Maniacs!

I'm cool with this.  I loved Cabin in the Woods, and he wrote some of my favorite episodes of Buffy and Angel, so he's also worked closely with Joss Whedon before.  I sense an epic win here.

Once again. Marvel impresses. They get a good guy for the job who knows the character inside out.

Marvel also got Melissa Rosenberg for the Jessica Jones TV. Rosenberg wrote the Twilight movies.

Keep in mind, she wrote the movies, not the books. She has some decent TV cred with Dexter.

I'm just glad it's going to be the first series out the door since it was the one I was looking forward to.

The thing I'm curious about is if these series are leading to "The Defenders" or whatever its called, will we get multiple seasons first, or are they going to do one season for each character and then do "The Defenders"?  I don't want to wait 3 years in between Daredevil seasons.

Better question is will they incorporate the Elektra storyline into this series and if so who plays her?

I'm sure, and hoping, that they basically reboot DD's story.  Now I didn't mind the movie, but its time for a fresh start.  Needless to say, this is all great news.

Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker did an AMAZING Iron Fist run a few years back that made for one helluva intriguing Danny Rand story, but it also took place largely in another realm and included a lot of Asian martial arts lore. That would be my first choice for an Iron Fist story, but also see that as unlikely since they want to make this a Hell's Kitchen thingamajig. However, if they decided to make that the basis for the Danny Rand story, that would be my most anticipated series. Any of the 2000's runs by Brubaker, Kevin Smith, and even what'shisface who did Ultimate Spiderman for about a gazillion years would be awesome Daredevil stories, but I'm sure they'll do the whole blinded by acid, taught by Stick, learning to use his powers, battling Kingpin/Bullseye, falling in love with Elektra storyline. Meh. Been there...

Agree Hanso but I get the feeling these series are going to be back to back. Since this is Nerflix, it doesn' have to follow the conventional TV release format of September to May. They can pop 1 series every 4-5 months.

That's my guess.

Still dislike the "Defenders" title. Stick with Heroes for Hire.

It will be interesting to see how Netflix handles it,  they got 4 series with Marvel and they got like 4 series of their own, so maybe they'll just drop one every month or so.

I would jus tlike a few seasons of Daredevil prior to any team event.

Wiseguy 11/13/2013 2:22:28 PM

It's supposed to be 4 series, 13 episodes each that end with a 5th series of episodes.

I agree ElBaz about Rosenberg. She only adapted garbage to screen, no writer could have ever polished that turd enough. She also wrote Birds of Prey which I personally loved
