DARK ANGEL executive producer Rene Echevarria has been talking about what lies ahead on the second season of his series, and it's biggest challenge: the Fox Friday night slot.

While talking to Zap2It.com, Echevarria first addressed the program's new Friday night slot, 8 p.m. ET/PT. The producer gave his scenario on its potential success there, saying, "Science fiction fans, often, after a work week, want to kick back and hang out together. Maybe it's better to be on at eight than at nine. We'll see if kids watch the show before they go out. We'll hold our breath."

As for what lies ahead... well, that may be spoiler material. If you'd rather not know what's to come, then you might want to move along to another story by using one of the links at the right.

Still there?

You were warned.

Echevarria says that Nana Visitor won't be around very long, with plans for her departure soon after the second season premiere. He says, "We have a great big finale for her which pays off her character, and you find out what she was up to. It actually sends Max on a quest."

Meanwhile, actor Jensen Ackles will be returning in another role. He had played Max's brother Ben, but will now that character's genetically engineered twin, Alec. Achevarria describes the character, saying, "He's not a Manticore loyalist. You see in the first episode that he's running a little black market at Manticore. He meets Max while she's at Manticore, and you just never know whether to trust him or not."

Actor Kevin Durand will also be joining the cast in the part of the beastly Joshua, another Manticore creation that was a mix of human and animal DNA. Echevarria describes the character, saying, "He's part canine. He's just enormously sweet, but he's a big guy -- he's six-foot-five -- so he can also be imposing and scary. He protects Max; she protects him. He's a sponge. He's fascinated by the world."

And Joshua will be just one of Manticore's weird experiments, which will be entering the program's world population. Echevarria notes that alteration in the program's focus, saying, "You see how scared people are of genetically engineered corn in their taco shells. Imagine of they thought there were people out there who were faster, stronger, smarter, more beautiful -- and you couldn't tell they were there."

And there will be a new villain, nameds Ames White, played by Martin Cummins (POLTERGEIST: THE LEGACY). Echevarria describes this new baddie, saying, "He's the guy sent to clean up the mess after the big Manticore debacle. He seems to have a visceral hatred for these transgenics, a personal vendetta. He thinks these are freaks, and they are dangerous."
