Hit the record in 18 days.

Definitely not breaking news but I said I would pass it along when it does and the time has come. As indicated in Sunday's box office report, The Dark Knight has officially crossed the $400 million mark for domestic sales. What's more, the highly praised sequel hit the mark in only 18 days of release, something which took the previous record holder Shrek 2 a total of 43 days to accomplish. The holder before that was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which took 45 days. With the $6.2 million the film earned on its 4,266 theaters Monday, the film is currently sitting at $400.0 million for its domestic gross.

It will pass Spider-Man's $403.7 mil mark on the All-Time Domestic Box Office list and sit in 7th place by the end of today.

I'll be happy if it knocks Titanic on its metal ass.

I think it's pretty safe to say that TDK will be at least #2 after its run without adjusting for inflation and has an outside shot at toppling Titanic. I don't think the latter will happen but TDK has proven me wrong almost everytime thus far.

Inflation adjusted numbers
600mil in 1998 = 905 mil today Titanic made the bulk of its money in 98
307mil in 1977 = 1bil 108mil today. That's what Star Wars made in its first release

according to Box Office Mojo's inflation numbers for domestic. 1 Gone with the Wind $1,430,476,000 2 Star Wars $1,261,086,700 3 The Sound of Music $1,008,300,900 4 E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial $1,004,328,700 5 The Ten Commandments $927,480,000

Had my third TDK viewing last night and man it is still such a great film to behold! Love this movie!! I, too, would love to see this get past Titanic.
WISEGUY562 8/5/2008 1:46:08 PM
The thing with those numbers is that they count multiple releases except for Sound and TC. Anyway I think it's safe to say that adjusting for inflation about the top twenty all time are pretty safe for now.

When hasn't TDK proved you wrong Wise? Everytime you make a prediction regarding it's numbers TDK proves you wrong. Your latest was in the comments of this past Sunday's box office report. I believe you stated TDK would reach $400 mil in 20 days. Wrong again.
hanso 8/5/2008 2:01:27 PM
LOL.
Wise just stop it. Stop with your TDK predictions. Buahahahwahaha. TDK owns son! I'm doing the Adam West Bat dance in celebration. Come on now, u guys can join. *doing bat dance*

Totally off topic hear but why has this site not released a Mummy review? From what I understand it is a shitty movie but that is no reason to not but a review up of it here...I'm not going out of my way to find a review when this is the site I come to for all of that stuff...I already heard from some of you that Rotten Tomatoes has it at 9% approval rating but that does nothing for me without the damn review! On to the subject at hand...I don't think Dark Knight is going to beat out Titanic but if it does I will celebrate in a quite little way by drinking a six pack of Hieneken, focking the shit out of my girlfriend and then conquer the waves as I do some night surfing just like the Dark Focking Knight would do, of course he would do it with a little more style with all his billions, that bat stinking bastard...
WISEGUY562 8/5/2008 2:04:53 PM
mla, and if it doesn't do it? Does that mean no more drinking, focking or surfing? I mean you gotta make it interesting here.

hanso, I'm curious, how many times have you seen TDK. I'm not even a huge fan and I've seen it 3 times. How much have you contributed to the cause (knocking out Titanic).
hanso 8/5/2008 2:29:07 PM
I've only seen it twice, going for a third when it finally hits IMAX here in DC. That's about the extent of my monetary contribution.
