Dark Knight Rises gets rating

No Surprise

The Dark Knight Rises rating has reportedly been revealed.

Collider.com reports that Christopher Nolan's coming Batman finale was given a PG-13 rating by the Motion Picture Association of America for "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language." That's not a total surprise, given both the film's trailer -- which features riots, explosions, gunplay and the collapse of a football field and the presumed deaths of many football players -- and its pedigree. Both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were also rated PG-13.

That's good news for the box office hopes of The Dark Knight Rises: were "Rises" rated R, it could significantly curtail the earning power of what many predict will be the highest grossing film of the summer. Director Ridley Scott has run into some of those issues with his own summer blockbuster, Prometheus. Scott and Twentieth Century Fox are apparently still deciding what rating would be more appropriate for the film, knowing full well that the difference between PG-13 and R could number millions of lost ticket dollars.

Expect an official MPAA announcement about The Dark Knight Rises soon. Starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Liam Neeson, The Dark Knight Rises arrives in theaters on July 20.

Rated A for awesome due to intense sequences of ownage and epicness.

It was rated R because of language so they just had Bane mumble more dialogue to obtain the highly coveted PG-13 rating.

Simply cannot wait.

There's no way they would have gone "R". If Nolan wanted to do an "R" for the trilogy, I hope he would have done it with Dark Knight.

Like the story says, leave that to Promethesus and lets move on.

I think it will be close on who makes the most $$.  I am leaning toward TDKR being the winner, but won't be sad either way.  The money that will be flowing this summer is going to be stupid!

I'd thought that they'd go the PG-13 route with Prometheus to maximise cinema takings, with a normal DVD / BD release, then magically discover the R rated director's cut a couple of months later.  Depends on how much leverage Scott has to keep his work intact for a cinema release.

Will it have subtitles?

I heard a rumor that Bane's dialogue was modeled after Charlie Brown's parents. Wha wa da wah wan... WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SAY BANE?

As much as I love Batman, Avengers is going to pwn this. BADLY. AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

Really Violator? Alot. The last one made a billion dollars and it was only the second in the franchise. Avengers will make some bank no doubt and I'm excited to see it but as Hansoso eloquently put it, it ain't rated A for awesome.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012 bitches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
