Critically acclaimed and a box office smash 'The Dark Knight'' has one more secret weapon in its bid for Oscar gold: Blu-Ray.
Now is the time of year when Academy Award nominators start receiving consideration tapes for various movies that may be nominated. The Hollywood Repoter says Warner Bros is upping the ante in the Oscar stakes by sending out Blu-Ray copies of 'The Dark Knight'.
"We really tried to do a lot with the film technically to give audiences a real reason to go see the film in theaters," Nolan told The Reporter.
But for Academy members who haven't seen it in theaters, or simply want to view it again, he said, "the Blu-ray version is vastly superior to DVD. You can actually see the things we did in Imax, and it will give Academy members the best possible chance to see what we did technically."
Along with this tactic, the studio is re-releasing the movie theatrically in January to give voters an extra chance to view it.
Could seeing the film in the enhanced presentation sway Oscar voters? We won't find out until January when the nominations are announced.
