Perhaps, this is the reason Warner Bros. moved their TRICK 'R TREAT movie out of the slated October 5th release date this morning. Fox has placed the trailer for THE DARK IS RISING online a few hours ago. This film starring Ian McShane (DEADWOOD) is also set for a October 5, 2007 release.

Story Premise: Based on the acclaimed novel by Susan Cooper, "The Dark Is Rising" is the first film adaptation of the author's acclaimed "The Dark Is Rising" Sequence. The film tells the story of Will Stanton, a young man who learns he is the last of a group of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. Traveling back and forth through time, Will hunts for a series of mysterious clues and encounters forces of unimaginable evil. With the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in Will's hands.

That looks really rather bad. Hard to tell, but I think it would be annoying even if I wasn't a fan of the book.

I saw the trailer for this last night before Harry Potter. It piqued my interest. I'm not sure why Ashamel thinks it looked bad. Seemed fairly well done to me, but I haven't read the book.
Dr. Who fans rejoice ... Christopher Eccleston is the Dark. I'll see it

Hmm. Interesting. If The Boy is interested, I might see this in theater.

Its funny how people will so easily see films in a theater. With soaring ticket prices and the fact that time is precious...I'll pass on this unorignal crap

I thought this looked alright yesterday when I saw it before HP. I might check this out.

This film looks pretty poor. I wasnt expecting it to be that great when I read the premise but the trailer makes it look like nothing more than a cash grab for people wanting more child fantasy movies. I will pass.

It looks pretty kick ass, better than a lot of the fantasy/ adventure movies. I'll go just for the reference of the Iron Maiden album "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"....It wil be interesting to see how all these movies do. LOTR, serious bank. Narnia, did pretty damn good. Eragon, not so much. Bridge to Teribthia, not so good. It seems like peoples' interests are waining for the fantasy adventure.

With all the new movies based on children's fantasies coming out, I'd place this toward the middle. It looks better than Eragon, on level with the Spiderwick Chronicles, but nowhere near as good as Potter or the Golden Compass or even Narnia.

That said, I might read the book. Although it looks like it's been pretty updated. The question is should I read it before Pullman or the Spiderwick Chronicles?
