DARKCHYLDE Comic to the Big Screen?

Apparently, the 1-18-08 movie isn't the only highly secretive project inside Hollywood today. DARKCHYLDE creator Randy Queen sent Newsarama a few notes about a movie based on his best selling horror comic in production. I'm echoing Newsarama and Shock Til You Drop's surprise at this project. It's a rather well known comic since 96 and definitely one of the most well known horror comics around...How it went into production without so many people knowing is well beyond me.

Plot Summary: Centers around a very pretty girl's curse that allows her to transform into different creatures from her many nightmares. Ariel Chylde is a physical pandora's box, and these creatures borrow her blood and bones to hitchhike over to our world. Everytime Ariel changes, she sets a different horror creature free in her small southern town.

Randy Queen provided the first snapshot of the film (pictured to the left here) and promises more updates in the future.

Here's what he told Newsarama:

"Just wanted to give a heads up that the first filmic images have been captured of Darkchylde, based on the comic of the same name. I am intimately involved, as is 5 time Oscar Winner Richard Taylor (King Kong, Lord of the Rings) and Weta Workshop, and Dark Horse (Hellboy)."

"I am very passionate about what I think works and what hasn't over the years. We have the A list team, and our expressed goal is to produce an original, beautifully shot, atmospheric horror film, played very straight and very dark, ala a modern Carrie or Ridley Scott's Alien, with a wicked, sexy cool Underworld vibe. Our only wish is to create a film for the horror fans of the world to get excited about, so everyone please wish us luck!"

So is this film live action or all CGI? I can't quite tell from the image posted here, and maybe that's a compliment to Weta and the rest of the effects guys.

The premise sounds pretty cool though.

Glad to see Mania is back on its game, posting enticing pictures of hot women as their top stories on the News page. The way the picture was cropped to exclude the horrific hand, it looks like a naked woman moaning in orgasmic ecstasy.

i'm failing to see a down side to your comment, nrollins.

lol There was nothing underhanded or devious (i.e posting a Maxim photo) in my mindset here.

The photo above is the snapshot that creator Randy Queen provided.

I do notice how she's not "blond" as his character in the comics is...but of course the character breasts are highlighted in much the same way as his character has been for years.

I am glad to hear about a new and intriguing horror movie coming out. Horror movies are my favorite and sadly, the past couple of 'horror' movies have been by no means, horror.

Maybe I am going to far ahead of the game just reading what little news there is, but it is still good to hear about besides a Saw 24 or Hostel 8....

As much as I like horror movies it is the bastard child of cinema...Horror movies used to have been praised and even Dr. Jeckyll and Mr Hyde one an academy award back in the day...What happened to those films....

finally Something original. I dont know anything about the comic but I'm curious to know if they go after the demons or monsters after they leave her body. What would be awesome would be if she had some sort of bond or physical relation to the creatures she produces. She could use that advantage in hunting them down. Still, Im only speculating, gotta wait just like everyone else.
