According to the Hollywood Reporter, Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw 2, 3) has signed on to direct the upcoming fourth installment in the Saw franchise.

"It's not often that a filmmaker is given the opportunity to follow a genuinely compelling character through two films, much less three," Bousman said. "So I'm very excited about picking up the reins on 'Saw IV,' and delving even deeper into the Jigsaw legend."

The film is scheduled for it's traditional October 26, 2007 release.

KJ's Take:  The series is long past bringing anything new to the horror genre, but the last one was entertaining and aside from the obvious rehashing of the same idea I haven't seen any drop off from film to film.

Did I miss something? Didn't Jigsaw and the girl both die in the last one? What kind of crazy idea are they going to come up with to work around that?

KJ's Guess:

The whole first 3 films were the girl's game. She lost, so Jigsaw, though dead, will have pre-made a game to pick his next heir. My guess is it's a character we have seen before too.

well seeing that Tobin Bell (aka-Jigsaw) is signed on for 5 films...he'll be in this one... about the end of the 3rd one, you're right & wrong... see Jigsaw already had another game set into motion at the very end... also remember what he said "suffering...you haven't seen anything yet!"
then of course you have to physically watch carefully at the end.. you'll notice Jigsaw ISN'T dead... all the dude did was make a tiny cut across Jigsaw's throat, but NOT big enough to kill him.... therefore Jigsaw is still alive.. plus you have to look at it this way... why would Jigsaw put himself in danger like that if he knew he would die in the end? come on, this guy is a genius...
I look forward to seeing what they've got up their sleeve for the 4th installment

Go back and watch Saw 3 again. It shows both Jigsaw and Amanda badly wounded at the end but you never actually see either of them die. My guess is Amanda's cell phone will get put to use and paramedics will arrive just in time to save Jigsaw but not Amanda. They will of course want him alive so he can stand trial. Wouldn't that be something? Saw 4 featuring Jigsaw on trial while yet another of his "games" is in progress. Maybe he will kidnap his attorney's wife or something and basically say, "Find a way to keep me out of jail or she dies." Who knows?

I'm sure Jigsaw will live on through pre-recorded games, but yes, he did die at the end of the third one. His death, and heartbeat ceasing, is what detonated the head-bomb on Lynn.

I've only seen/wanted to see the first one. Though creative death sentences are cool, they only work well if they serve the structure of the movie, rather than the structure of the movie serving the death scenes. The first movie was good for what it was, and though it was somewhat creative, it's too much like every other modern horror film. However, as long as audiences keep eating up the schtick, they'll keep going to see it. They'll probably make ten of these.

I think creative death scenes peaked with the original 'The Omen', unfortunately.

I thought Saw 2 was horrible but Saw 3 was much better. They really need to stop the series or else it is just going to become crappier and crappier.

The only way this movie will work if they really want to go deeper into the Jigsaw myth is to make it a prequel. Show some stuff with his wife and the first games that he played. That would be a cool SAW4.

Are u people crazy!!!!! this is one of the worst series of movies i have ever seen! the first one was good, the 2nd one blew left over fat from a womens ass and the 3rd on ate whatever the 2nd threw up!!
i dont mean to get so personal here but it just makes me mad when i hear people say saw is one of the best horror franchises there is and blah blah blah.
Like i said the 1st one was good and almost orignial besides the fact that they kinda ripped it off of the seven film.
Maybe if they took there time with a, lets all say it together kids, S-T-O-R-Y that it would actually be good. its when they rush movies into being made that they usually turn out bad. for me the movies werent even entertaing and the only reason why i saw them was to give them a chance, u never know how those kinda movies turned out. but besides rest stop, saw 3 might be one of the worst movies(for me) of last year.
