Dave Gibbons Draws Stan Lee's GREEN LANTERN
By: Rob AllstetterDate: Tuesday, August 14, 2001
Dave Gibbons, the artist of the GREEN LANTERN story in DC Comics' JUST IMAGINE STAN LEE CREATING series, said that he tried to give the character a completely different look.
"You wanted to ignore everything that's been done before," Gibbons said.
"You don't want to give them a clone.
"We hit upon the idea that maybe the guy himself is the Green Lantern. He glows. He is the Lantern. He is kind of what the name suggests and goes against what has been done with the character before."
The lead story for the book, which reaches stores on Oct. 17, is inked by Dick Giordano. The back-up story, written by Lee and Michael Uslan, has art by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez.
Lee said the early issues in the series tended to be more faithful to the originals. "But as I went on, I got further away," he said.
