"in the vein of" leaves a lot of room for conjecture. I'm interested to see more about this film as it comes together.

Alright... "in the vein of" means we need Kira Knightly... she's perfect... I agree we need more information, but they will need high quality actors to pull off another Pirates type scenario using magic and witchcraft. Sleepy Hollow meets Pirates of the Caribbean???

Is this film going to be related to the Witch Hunter Robin anime. I know they were talking about doing a live action film based on the Anime, could this be it.

If that was the case, they'ed reference Witch Hunter Robin. I think this is a different project.

Oooh, witches will again get hammered in the media and mis-portrayed...what a shock!
It's waaaaaay easier to go with the stereotype than actually LEARN about them, isn't it?
F*** you, Hollywood, F*** you right in the ear.

meathead - Before you go off the deep end, this little bit of information doesn't say anything about how the characters will be portrayed in the film.

I agree with meathead here. I had thought that with TV series like "Charmed" and "Sabrina The Teenaged Witch" finally breaking the trend from the former mindset of sensationalizing witches as heels and were a blight upon man and mankind's inner fear days were over.

Here we have a fallback to the days that witches are bad with sinister connotations as was utilized over the past few centuries by fundamentalist Christian propagandists even to today to makes themselves look more the part of paragons of virtue.

It's movies like this that impressionable people and the young will see and continue along with that social and religious prejudice.

Witches are no more dark sorceresses bent on destruction than Spider-man is evil incarnate and a plague on New York City. Maybe to a character as closed minded as J.J. Jameson but to the rest of the populace they know better.

You often see movies or tv series like "Touched By An Angel" that depict Christians in a very good light but rarely see them shown as sinister and evil characters.

So why is that? Christians can't be as evil as the witches they wish to blindly portray with malace intent as being such.

No because to do that will cause them to boycott the movie or the company that owns the movie studio.

Now why is it that movie studios are sensitive to the needs of Muslims or Christians and NOT portray them in any movie or tv series as "negative" but it is okay to deem witches i.e. Wiccans still as "negative" but really what HAVE they done to warrent that denomer?

We all have seen what radical Muslims and fundamentalist Christians can do, and they are NOT excluded from being free from evil, but seriously, what has modern day witches done to still be cast in a "negative" light still today? Why must Hollywood continue to make witches into something evil instead of chasing after sorcerers and sorceresses instead. :-)

If they can be prone to do this with witches then they should also do the same

with Christians and Muslims too! No religion is excluded from the rule of being placed in a "negative" light, or to include all of them in a "positive" way.

ninja, with such a long-winded diatribe you posted, please show me where in the blurb it says the witches are evil. what if the witches are the hunters? little bit of a knee-jerk reaction me thinks.

I was going to say that the Wiccans will go ape sh*t over this, but I see that I am too late.
