J. Michael Straczynski announced that David Goyer will be writing a treatment for Marvel Studios' THOR.

Mark Protosevich was originally tabbed to write the script and Goyer will be taking his place. No word on if he will be altering Protosevich's script or starting all over.

Goyer has previously worked on such projects as Batman Begins and Blade.

As long as it's better than BLADE: TRINITY.

Does Goyer know Norse mythology? Walter Simonson (who had an amazing run on Thor) and Michael Avon Oeming (Hammer of the Gods and Thor) are well versed in Norse mythology and should work omn the script.

Yeah, because Marvel's Thor is so true to Norse mythology right? Back in college, I must have missed that lecture on Norse mythology where they talk about Thor teaming up with Captain American and the Hulk.

there has been talk that this film WILL actually feature some actual norse mythology. Whether it will pan out obviously remains to be seen, but it sure would be great to see it done correctly.

Thor may have teamed up with Cap and the Hulk, but in his own series of books there was plenty of cool Asgardian intrigue. If they approach it correctly it just might work.

And I think it's time to forgive Goyer for Blade Trinity. It was pretty obvious from the getgo that Snipes' heart wasn't in it, and it's budget was aneorexic. He was working on that script at about the same time as Batman Begins. I think it's pretty evident which script was getting the better part of his attention. Batman was fantastic, and if he can do something of similar quality with Thor, it should be interesting.

Hey fritzlee don't bag on wessmith - he knows what he is talking about. This movie obviously won't have Cap and Hulk in it, so it really should be rooted in Norse mythos. At the very least, there is going to be more than a passing reference especially considering that this is an origin movie. Plus I hope it is rooted in the Norse mythos because I think that it will make it a more interesting tale (not that I am some big Norse mythology geek) and different from all the other Superhero movies out today.

Goyer does not suck. Batman Begins was awesome quite possibly the best comic movie ever! So I have to say I trust Goyer even if Blade Trinity was bad. I think it would be cool if they incorporated some norse mythology into the movie because if they go the other direction this movie could be incredibly cheesy. But either way I agree with Kenny it is a comic book movie.

It should have, at least in the first act, plenty of Norse refrences. As an origin movie and one where most movie goers no nothing of the character it is necessary to root it in Thors origin. There will be some portion of the general movie going populace that can relate the Norse god and Thor together so keeping those elements are important for those people as well.
One of the best things they did in the Daredevil movie was give us a good origin story. The didn't gloss over it and it allowed those who knew nothing to have a good foundation of his beginnings.

This movie could have historical references and exotic locations that would give it a unique look and feel from the other comic-to-film movies of the last 8 years.

I'm not a Thor fan but am curious to see how this develops.

I may be the only one who doesn't think "Trinity" sucked.
