DC backs BATMAN

By: Rob Allstetter
Date: Friday, July 19, 2002

To help launch the new BATMAN creative team of Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee, DC Comics is offering a special increased discount for qualifying retailers.

Retailers will receive an additional 5 percent over their regular DC discount on BATMAN #608 if they make initial orders on that issue in quantities of 200 percent or more of their initial orders on BATMAN #604.

"Jim's and Jeph's run on BATMAN may be the most highly-anticipated creative change we've seen in an ongoing monthly comic-book in years," says Bob Wayne, DC's VP - Sales & Marketing. "With this increased discount, we've giving retailers a way to put more copies of the book on their shelves and into the hands of their customers."

"If you've seen the bits and pieces that have been in WIZARD and elsewhere, you know Jim and Jeph are doing some truly amazing work," says BATMAN editor Bob Schreck. "As far as I'm concerned, the more copies we can get out there, the greater the potential is for new readers to pick up on the book."

Here's how DC describes BATMAN #608:

"BATMAN #608 is the start of 'Hush' - a 12-part, uninterrupted storyline where superstar artist Lee unleashes his talent on one of DC's greatest icons. Joining Lee is someone who is no stranger to the World's Greatest Detective: writer Jeph Loeb, who has spun such classic maxiseries as the Eisner and Wizard Award-winning BATMAN: THE LONG HALLOWEEN and BATMAN: DARK VICTORY, and who now brings his powerful storytelling abilities to the monthly title. Beautifully inked by Scott Williams, 'Hush' is a bold new adventure in the life of the Dark Knight, and surely will set a new standard for Batman stories for years to come.

"The details of 'Hush' have been kept tightly under wraps, as it features more surprises than readers can imagine. What we can tell you is that it features a wide array of friends and foes from the Batman cast, including Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, the Joker, Two-Face, Huntress, and - before it's all done - a certain Man of Steel. There will be action, murder, mystery, romance and death in a story that will keep you guessing right up until the end."

BATMAN #608 will be in stores on Oct. 23.
