This will be my last post on this.

So Gauley let me get this straight. Because I prefer to focus on story, include all diversity in the story line without sacrificing the story I am the bigot? And you justify this saying it is because I don't want to read about gay people (which I never said).  But at the same time you are allowed to say

"Bruce Wayne wouldn't listen to Rush, because Bruce Wayne isn't a hateful POS, who listens to bigots (and yes for the record I am calling Rush Blowhard a bigot and a misogynist, and a racist, and a hypocrit, and a no talent hack of a D.J. that found a niche full of empty minds to fill"

Gee seems like you don't like listening to conservatives...hmmm. Must mean you are a bigot? Right? Intolerant of a certain demographic of people. Right? Pot meet Kettle. Have a nice one Gauley.

Oh FYI the statement about my daughter and sister were true. And you know something. The BIGGEST desire I have ever heard from any one in this group has been simple TREAT US LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. Well window dressing up a gay marriage just to make a promotional stunt is not accomplishing that. It does the opposite. And THAT is my point.

DC has two other gay characters with Batwoman being a lesbian and Bunker from Teen Titans being gay. So the news isnt that they have a gay character per se, but that an old existing character is now gay.

And as much as I support the entire thing,  there is one problem they will have. When the Green Lantern movie came out, NON comic book fans who heard of GL thought he was supposed to be black from the JLA cartoon. So they thought it was racist to have Ryan Reynolds. Now news will simply say Green Lantern is gay. Way to COMPLETELY confuse non-comic book reading fans. Is he black, white, gay all the above? THIS is the sole reason I think changing race, gender or now sexual-orientation of a character is silly when we can just CREATE NEW great characters.

At least with the sexual orientation, a GOOD writer could actually have it that all these years that we knew of the character Alan Scott, he was gay, he just hadnt come to terms with it himself yet so was in the closet. and even had a family trying and lying to himself of his sexuality. (i know its New 52 and never had a family, just sayin this could lead to good stories if handled correctly)

I knew this thread would turn into this....

I cannot PROVE to you I was being facitious, but next time I assure you I will add a foot note to remove all doubt. (Since I'm such a liar about these things)

Alright Gauley and I will in turn do the same. But if you can't prove that you are being facitious (which for the record I believe you when you say you are) how can lazarus prove to you that his daughter is transgender and his sister is gay. Why is he a liar? I believe him too. No reason not too.

@darth bob - did I once indicate a prejudice towards the religious? no. Just religion. There is a difference.  I am very tolerant, there was no hypocrisy at all.

I'm a little disturbed by someone of the opinions that are expressed here, I'd have thought we were past this. People have a right to their opinion but Gay people exisit in a much larger number then show up in Comics. In the past Gay Characters were seen as taboo or daring. Today Gay people are a normal part of society for the most part. Someone says "i'm gay" is say "oh, does my ass look good in these jeans? I've got a date tonight"

The idea of a Golden Age character being outted as Gay is actually a great piece of story telling. There is lots to say, and lots of development and a great message for kids, to show where the world was and is. If DC does it right they have a great way to tell very human stories to comment on society as a whole. I love the idea of a Golden Age character being gay, it's a time when people really couldn't come out and as such much like Rock Hudson (for example) would rather have died then let people know. The world has come a long way since the 40s and 50s and a Golden Age hero is thus the idea character to have that element outted so long as they do it right. (as in not make their time period seem perfectly fine with it)

Today the term PC is only used by people that dislike the idea of being reminded that Gay people are around. Yet in the US about 3.5 percent (1 in 30) identify as Homosexual or Bisexual. It stands to reason that a few of the Superhero characters are going to be gay. Gay people don't run around thinking the world isn't politically correct enough, many still run around worring if their boss finds out they'll get fired or worse think they have to be PC and throw them a Party.

@ Kaziklu, brilliant point. Golden age character is actually very interesting and I can see how such man would have lived in the closet earlier.

Reading some comments and witnessing some of the attitude at display here, it begs the usual question: if some of you are not comfy with gay characters, why then do you stay in a forum that you think is full of dicks?

Lots of hatred and vitriol out there, so I'll give my 2 cents, LoL, why not?  I personally do agree that the whole gay agenda has been shoved down everyone's throat in a big way.  I understand that people can do what they want, but I personally feel like this particular issue is being pushed pretty hard lately.  I won't ever let my kids read Green Lantern, no way in hell.  At this point I won't be suprised if Batman and Bane have a make out session in the new DK movie this summer.

@kaziklu - exactly what i was saying (more so on anther site, but some here) Great potential! Im just willing to bet DC drops the ball on that. They probably just incorporate him being gay and thats it, when there could be volumes of stories. From perhaps his difficulty with accepting it at first himself or that even when he did it has been a deeper secret to him then even being Green lantern was. But now he finally he feels comfortable enough to come out.  Great stuff that can truly show some of the difficulty some gays go through with it all.

They could STILL have Jade and obsidian his children if they wanted. It could be during a time of his life where he was most confused about who he truly was.  This kind of thing happens in the real world all the time
