Warner Premiere has dropped a little something in Mania's inbox this morning: the first official images from 'The Spectre', the initial entry in the all-new DC Showcase series of animation shorts!

From the creative forces behind the DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies, DC Showcase puts the spotlight on favorite characters from throughout the annals of DC Comics in fascinating, short-form tales sure to entertain longtime and new fans alike.

'The Spectre' focuses on a detective story with an ethereal twist, featuring the otherworldly character originally introduced by DC Comics in 1940. The short is written by Steve Niles ('30 Days of Night') and directed by Joaquim Dos Santos ('G.I Joe: Resolute'). The voice cast is led by Gary Cole ('Entourage') as the title character and Alyssa Milano ('Charmed') as Aimee Brenner.

'The Spectre' will be distributed February 23 by Warner Home Video as part of the 'Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths' Blu-ray/DVD.

DC Showcase is a co-production from Warner Premiere, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Home Video and DC Comics. Bruce Timm is Executive Producer. Future DC Showcase titles include Jonah Hex (written by Joe Lansdale).

Cool! More DC animation.  I am not really ahuge fan of the Specter but everythingt from the DC toons has bee top notch thus far.  I am all for more!

If Niles wrote this then I am in… I like the character to begin with so his writing the script is an added bonus.
I actually have liked most of the DC animation of late. I hope they can really build it up to make films longer than the usual 70 minutes or so.

Agree axia. never been a big Spectre fan but anything coming from the DC animation department is a must have.

Man, both the DC and the Marvel toon departments have been putting out what I consider the best animated comic movies I have ever seen in my life period. Between the stellar Wonder Woman to the ultra bad ass Wolverine VS Hulk(which was IMHO the BEST Wolverine, Hulk and Deadpool movie ever made) I just can't get enough. It is Blu Ray DC and Marvel toons for me all the way baby!!

The Spectre is the best character in the entire DCU.  He's been totally mishandled for years by the moronic writers and editors at DC. They never should have gotten rid of Jim Corrigan as the spectre's host.  The spectre should not interract with costumed heroes on a regular basis.  The best Spectre was mike Fleisher's run as writer in the 1970s with jim Aparo as the artist in Adventure Comics...here the Spectre was unmerciful in how he punished everyday criminals.

I'd love to see the Spectre as a Vertigo title..

tjanson, i like what you have to say ... the Spectre, along with Phantom Stranger and Deadman, have always been some of my favorite DC horror titles along with Len Wein's Swamp Thing. Would love to see more of the darker, horror related titles get a run on Vertigo. Moore, Gaiman, Morrison et al should be up to the task!
