According to Variety, actor Robert De Niro and Universal Pictures will be chasing the dragon very soon. The film is based off of the Roy Rowan memoir "Chasing the Dragon: A Veteran Journalist's Firsthand Account of the 1949 Chinese Revolution." It centers on the rise of Mao Zedong and communism in China, using as a resource one of the only Western journalists on the ground to watch the events unfold.
Rowan was in China at the time working for United Nations Relief. While there, he covered the events as a correspondent for the Shanghai bureau of Time and Life.
