DEAD RISING Contest

By Karl Schneider     July 27, 2006

Dead Rising for Xbox 360

The folks promoting the upcoming release of DEAD RISING have been kind enough to provide Cinescape with a $50 Best Buy gift certificate and 5 copies of the game. Since we are nice here at Cinescape, we decided another contest was in order.

DEAD RISING follows the harrowing tale of Frank West, an overly zealous freelance photojournalist on a hunt for the scoop of a lifetime. In pursuit of a juicy lead, he makes his way to a small suburban town only to find that it has become overrun by zombies. He escapes to the local shopping mall, thinking it will be a bastion of safety but it turns out to be anything but. It will be a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but players will have full reign of a realistic shopping center, utilizing anything they find to fight off the flesh-hungry mob and search for the truth behind the horrendous epidemic.

If you are interested in winning a copy of the game, write me at maniaent@gmail.com and tell me why you want to win. Convince me in UNDER 100 words to give the game to you, and it's yours! There will be 6 winners (one of which will receive the gift certificate instead of the game), if you go over 100 words, you are automatically disqualified. Make me laugh, make me cry, do whatever the heck it takes to win yourself a copy!

DEAD RISING features an open level of freedom and offers a vast array of game play possibilities. As part of a real time system, time is dynamic in Dead Rising, marching on whether Frank is actively engaged or if he is stationary. Time also plays a role as zombies become more powerful when the sun goes down. Though they move slowly during the day, the zombies become stronger and faster at night, making it even more dangerous for players to survive. The unprecedented numbers of enemies come in never-ending waves and consist of a diverse population of former humans that have retained some memory of their previous lives, which is reflected in their behavior and appearance. The variety of different stores in the mall offers players an endless supply of resources including vehicles, makeshift weapons and more. Players will also encounter other survivors along the way and by helping them can acquire valuable clues as to what has happened.

The game solely on Xbox is due to be released August 8th, be sure to check it out.

"The game solely on Xbox is due to be released August 8th, be sure to check it out." It's actually an Xbox 360 game. There's a big difference, heh.

It sounds cool in premise, but i keep thinking back to a Genesis game I had called Tick: Night of a Million Billion Ninjas. True to its title, that is all there was to the game; an endless stream of ninjas that fought the same way everytime. This game happens in a shopping mall and is on a nextgen system so I'm sure it'll be great. Right?

Why do they always escape to the shopping mall? Did they do that in movies before Dawn of the Dead?

Makabriel, I believe it is being released on XBOX 360 and XBOX, that line was ripped strait from the press release.

Hmm.. someone has their info wrong somewhere http://ww2.capcom.com/deadrising/ According to the website it is "Only on Xbox 360" And I've been following the game for quite a while. I'm pretty sure the Xbox would not be able to handle the game as it is.

I only follow the press release I am given. The line "The game solely on Xbox is due to be released August 8th, be sure to check it out." was ripped right from the press release. I assumed that it was because the game would debut on both systems, but if you are correct, which I don't doubt you are, then it was likely because whoever wrote the press release was lazy.

Seriously...I want this game. Every time I go into a shopping mall I'm amazed at how much crap they have that can kill people. Just look at the athletic department in a Target. God I hope I get to shoot zombies with a paintball gun...
