Capcom has announced that the Xbox 360 exclusive title Dead Rising has shipped over one million copies worldwide, making it one of the first hits of the new generation of consoles.

Due to the success, Mark Beaumont, the executive vice president of Capcom, has been quoted saying that we can expect the game to become a franchise.

"When you're at the front-end of a hardware cycle, people are willing to take more of an experiment in what games they'll try," said Beaumont.  "Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come."

KJ's Take:  Not really surprising, though it is interesting to note that the 360 has a few quality exclusive titles already in Dead Rising, Gears of War and Halo.

I am glad to read this. Deadrising was an unexpected smash, and I enjoyed every minute of it, flaws and all. My only question would be, what would the title for the sequel be? If this was Deadrising, would the next one be Deadstillrising? Perhaps Deadrisen? lol... Anyway, good on Capcom, and good on Microsoft.

Perhaps they'll change the title a lot. I mean, Batman Begins was hard to name a sequel for so they just went a different route. Although, being a video game, I'd expect it to be Deadrising 2. Is it really worth picking up? I only played the demo and I wasn't convinced I'd get my money's worth out of the gameplay. I had the feeling it would get rather repetitive.

I think its sweet that Capcom is making a come back. I've loved the company for many years, and when Dead Rising came out i picked it up, cause it had two things i knew were good; Capcom and Zombies. I just hope that they don't push the sequels to seconday developers. Not that they would, but it has happened (other publishers) Capcom is on their way back to the top.

Indeed this is good news. Love the game. Maybe they could get David Boreanz to play Frank West in the movie version...

Didn't buy the game myself as I didn't like the forced time limit item and I heard people complaining about the whole saving people thing. What it does right is throw a metric sh*t ton of zombies at you and let you fight through them using anything you can pick up in a mall. If they made a GTA type game with zombies and called that the sequel...I'd be amazingly happy.
