Paramount and Marvel Studios are teaming up to bring DEATHLOK to the big screen. The studio has tapped scribes Stu Zickerman and Raven Mentzner to write the film's script, which will alter the character's origin from that of the comic book version(s).
The movie will tell the story of a suburban family man who finds himself the unwitting and unwilling subject of a techgnological experiment to slowly turn him into a living computer.
While talking to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel's Avi Arad spoke of how the project will have resonance in today's high tech hungry culture, saying, "We are all becoming more dependent on technology. One of these days it's going to be inside of us. For example, we won't need a cell phone; it'll be built into our ear. Now is that a cool thing, or will it destroy us as human beings? DEATHLOK explores what those consequences may be."
The original concept of DEATHLOK told the near future story of soldier/mercenary Luther Manning killed in battle. His desiccated corpse is reactivated when it is combined with a cutting edge computer system for a military experiment. Unexpectedly, this jolt of electronics revives the dead Manning, who rebels against his military leader and forges a relationship with his other computer half that defaults on its programmed missions to kill.
