Well sci fi put all their eggs in one basket with this show.  I like the show so far.  I don't feel if it's anything new so far but it keeps my attention so I am in.  Might get the game when it goes on sale eventually for ps3.  Glad they have the fusion guns.  Getting bored with bullets in shows again.  Energy weapons is where it's at.  I even like the sonic blades or whatever they are called.  If they do swords they prob will call it star wars rip off.  Show has a star wars feel to anyway.

It was a good enough episode to bring me back for round 2.  The pilot was a little hokey, trite and cliche in spots, but I was plesantly surprised at how good the episode was.

I agree with DarthBob..."The pilot was a little hokey,"  but  "good enough...to bring me back for round 2."  I particularly liked the teaser at the end. I'm hoping this will be like Continuum and get more interesting with each subsequent episode.

I mainly watched this, because I live in St. Louis and was curious how the city would be in play.   I agree it was a bit "hokey" as you guys have put it.   Still its already more enjoyable than NBC's Revolution which I dropped after about 7 or 8 eps.  Defiance will get to keep its "Record" status on my DVR.  While I don't think it will be a top 10 show for me, it looks like it  can be entertaining.

I agree that this show has potential and I liked what I saw. But I'm a little fuzzy on how all these alien races  wound up on earth, why the ark ships exploded, and why they're still falling so many years after the fact.

I had real problems with this pilot.  The characters and plot were pretty cliched.  By itself, that is not enough to turn me off.  I love me some good pulp.

But when the characters and plot do not work, I fall back on the world building.  And that is a mess.  I do not care what terraforming you have done, if the Mississippi is dry and there are beaches in Antarctica, water is going to be the most scarce and valuable resource anywhere.  Screw the mines; who owns the damn well? And how do you have temperate forests (the ones with the bear spiders) if you have no river and no mountain snows?

This may sound nitpicky, but this type of stuff really bothers me.  This is what you would get if an average teenager decided to write an epic fantasy novel.

It was alright enough for me to come back a few more times; but not incredibly impressed yet.

GREAT SHOW!! I'm really looking forward to the next episode!

Walker...you must have a hard time with most, sci-fi, horror and fantasy, television and movies as the large majority of them appear to have been written by average teenagers (or pre-teens for that matter).

Sometimes I also get a little too analytical with this stuff and then I remember that I've got to really...really suspend my disbelief, big time, while I'm watching or go check out CNN (is that fantasy too).

Let's face it 99% of the things that take place in these movies never have and never will happen, and yes...never could happen (these shows are fairy tales).  Once you get past that, if you are still interested in viewing the series, you may be able to enjoy it.   Check out the cool special effects, the action scenes, the outlandish outfits and the hot ladies and forget about how they are surviving without water.

Finally watched this (spread out over two nights) and really enjoyed it.  I thought this review was spot on, down to the point about Nolan trying to hard (sometimes he was too direct a Han Solo homage).

You mentioned two weak spots, though, and only listed one.  What was the other?
