Agreed. I thought it was pretty boring. I'm hoping things start to pick up or this show could go the way of Caprica.

And, come on. There has to be a training manual some where to teach TV antagonists how to tie the hands of our heros.

Have to write quickly and be off.

I felt the polar opposite about this episode than you. I felt that at last they are showing the great story, depth and nuance of characters they can be capable of. I was thinking of this epsode as on par with a low level Game Of Thrones which is saying alot in my book.

Your points on the Biomen physique I totally agree with. Why would you need a secret killswitch when you can just shoot him like any other person? He should have been nearly unstoppable unless you hit his spot like Nolan did in the pilot.

Stahma's always pleasant on the outside persona is what makes her scenes great to me. I put her on a par with Cersei of GoT.

I also thought this was a great evolution in the McCawley family relations. I would think after their conversation they will not be going into the "You loved my brother more than me!" fight. They will focused on the mysteries of the artifact and what it can do for them.

In terms of a futuristic wild west TV show that it is on the surface, it was slow with little action. But in terms of a scf-fi Sopranos (which how I took the episode) I thought it was very well done.

Those are all some very solid point, Monkeyfoot. I agree with you that there a great many good ideas in play here, I just felt the execution was pretty lacking.

Still a good show with lots of potential.

i watched the first couple of episodes and decided i can waste my time on other shows.  i don't even bother recording this show anymore.

I tend to agree with Monkey here. I thought this was one of the better episodes, if no the best, so far. I was ready to cancel my recording of it, but this episode convinced me to hold on just one more day! Wow, did I just do that?

Anyway, I enjoyed the character development of this episode... However, I too was very surprised at how easy the bioman went down - that was pretty disappointing as I was expecting some big, action packed throwdown at the end.

I also thought it was strange that the girl sidekick was nowhere to be found in this episode - she must have called in sick the day they filmed this episode.

I enjoyed this episode.

Thank you, PappyVanWinkle. This show is nothing more than a two bit hack job that apes more successful shows.

The problem with any new show, and the one Defiance is now facing .... their needs to be enough action and "hook" to keep the audience interested, yet enough character development so as to have a vested interest in what happens to those characters.  This is a very fine act to balance, and many shows are lost when the audience doesn't show enough patience to let it develop.  I just hope the audience stays long enough with this one to let it get its feet under it.  I think it has great promise.
