Author Eric Flint moved to the forefront of the alternative history subgenre with the publication of his critically-acclaimed novel
1632 by Baen Books. Now powerhouse SF publisher Del Rey has announced that they've papered Flint with a two-book deal.
The books will examine an alternative history of the life of famed 19th century frontiersman, Sam Huston. In Flint's version of reality, Huston escapes unscathed from the Battle of Horseshoe Bend, and eventually joins Andrew Jackson's ranks, defending against the British at New Orleans, and commanding a unit of freedmen soldiers.
The titles of Flint's forthcoming novels haven't been announced, but the first book should hit stands sometime in early 2005.
