It seems Guillermo del Toro has good reason for his high hopes on his HELLBOY project, given the success of his most recent comic book adaptation, BLADE 2.
With the Wesley Snipes vampire actioner still raking in the cash, del Toro talked about HELLBOY, and his hopes for bringing it to the big screen.
"For me BLADE 2was also kind of a dress rehearsal of many, many things I was dreaming of for HELLBOY. Even the collaboration with Mike Mignola was a little bit of a trial ground for that," del Toro told Comics-2-Film. He and Mignola worked on concep art for BLADE 2. "If I get my way and manage to do HELLBOY after this I will take everything we tried on BLADE 2and push it up a couple of notches."
What does he mean?
He also revealed he's in serious discussions with HELLBOY rights owner Revolution Studios to direct the picture. He also has a surprising idea for the casting of HELLBOY, the comic book troubleshooter who's job it is to track down demonic activity.
Ron Pearlman (ALIEN: RESSURECTED, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, BLADE 2) as HELLBOY, is what he's thinking.
"[Mignola and I] met the first time and he said, 'There's only one actor that can play Hellboy,' and I said, 'Oh, my God. We're going to disagree because I think there's only one actor that can play Hellboy,' and we both said the same thing: Ron Perlman," Del Toro recalled.
Here's hoping we'll see it soon.
