Universal Pictures has set actor Benicio Del Toro to star in the remake of THE WOLF MAN.

The story will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.

Andrew Kevin Walker is writing the script. Scott Stuber, Rick Yorn, Mary Parent and Benicio Del Toro will produce.

The plan is to shoot the film in 2007 for a summer 2008 release.

Del Toro is an awesome actor. I hope he can do some justice to make a nice period piece focused on this cool character.

Del Toro will do this remake justice. Lets hope all the others do thier part. He was awesome in Sin City and Way of the Gun.

Right on there..Van Helsing's wolf things stunk. Need them more real, not over the top.

They need to bring the horror back into werewolves and vampires. Many of the films from the past decade have been more action oriented (Blade, Underworld, Helsing, etc). The creatures have lost their "scare" appeal. Hopefully, this will do that

could be good. depending on if they worry more about story or special effects. i think del toro would be perfect as the joker in the next batman flick.

I've always felt that the human character should be hopelessly depressed and suicidal, perhaps even an alcoholic (turns into the town drunk) by day but by night he's an unstoppable killer without remorse. He cant deal with his Wolf's side actions, but is too much of a pansy to actually kill himself. LOL! it should be a fun movie... so few directors know how to properly do a true werewolf flick, this should be intersting.

Since when did dog-face boy turn into wolf man?
coldhardtruth 3/16/2006 12:11:48 AM
Van Helsing was horrible, no doubt!

actually Crow, the transformation in American Werewolf in London wasnt scary in the traditional sense...it was more painful to watch the character turn. I still havent seen anything like it since where the actual transformation of man into beast inflicted so much pain on the person... yet he remembered none of it the following morning! I also loved the idea of his victims "ghosts" (meatloaf) haunting him and trying to convince him to commit suicide so that he wont kill anymore! Stephen Sommers directed the Mummy and The Mummy Returns they werent so bad, but Van Helsing? WHAT HAPPENED?? ouch. For me, Van Helsing will always be Peter Cushing, a determined old man hell bent on destroying Dracula... not Arch Angel Gabriel with super powers from the hand of God and the Pope and Vatican or some such nonsence, Van Helsing is NOT a prettyboy either Sommers... have you seen Fright Night with Roddy McDowell?? THATS Van Helsing! I think the mistake was casting Hugh Jackman in the role... my biggest critique of Van Helsing was simple: I really REALLY liked the black and white part in the beginning... but the first fight with Dr Jeckle/Mr Hyde I lost interest really quick. (which is when they introduced Jackman's character)
