Denzel Washington for Green Lantern?

Rumor Control

A rumor has broken out that Denzel Washington (Training Day) was under consideration for the role of Lex Luthor in the Man of Steel sequel. Nuke the Fridge is exclusively reporting that this rumor is actually misinterpreted and Washington is actually be considered for a different role. That role in Superman vs Batman (or Batman vs. Superman) is that of John Stewart a Green Lantern. Now this is just a rumor, of course, and has not been confirmed by DC Comics or its parent Warner Brothers.

“Nuke the Fridge” (see site here) is not the most reliable site on the web. However, this does bring up a few interesting possibilities. The first of which is that Warner Brothers is over crowding the Man of Steel sequel. We already have three members of the Justice League in the film and now a fourth? On a better note, this would mean a second chance for the Green Lantern character on the big screen. Granted it is not Hal Jordan, but does anyone want to se a sequel with Ryan Reynolds? No. We also have to ask why Denzel Washington? Why not a younger actor?

I for one, would all be for a John Stewart/ Green Lantern appearance or stand alone film. Warner Brothers proved the character had legs on the Justice League cartoon. Sound off below Maniacs, John Stewart, Yeah or Nay!

That rumor was immediately refuted by WB. I don't think that you need that kind of star power to be Green Lantern anyway? Plus I do agree with overcrowding the Batman/Superman movie wth too many heroes....unless of course the movie isn't going to be a Batman/Superman movie at all and just call it what it is?

Nah, save the money the money for the FX.

I always thought that Common would make a good John Stewart, if only for a cameo, and its safe to say he's a lot cheaper/easier to get than Denzel.

Denzel Washington is too high profile to be in a two-bit role in a movie like this one. Nothing would thrill me more, on the other hand, to see Washington portray Alex Cross in a movie, but that would mean rebooting that franchise over yet again, something I wouldn't mind since Tyler Perry's version was just a tad bit better than the atrocious Morgan Freeman ones... Denzel as Lex Luthor would be horrific, IMO.  I hope it Lex is going to be played by Cranston or even Phoenix...

The Ryan Reynolds GL screwed up majorly in the choice of villain - throwing Parallax into the first major film was absurd, especially the way Hal Jordan wound up beating him.  The rest of the movie I could have lived with.  I could personally stomach seeing Reynolds again as GL, whether it be a GL sequel or a JL movie...

For Pete's Sake, don't put GL in the Man of Steel sequel - just watched Man of Steel again last night and liked it better than the first time I saw it.  Still not convinced Batman and Wonder Woman need to be in it...

He's a getting bit old and from the looks of things in his last five films his body appears to be wrecked.

Denzel is awesome, one of my favorite actors, but I seriously couldn't see him playing GL in this movie.  I agree with silversurfer also about the overcrowding of never works out well when they overcrowd a movie with villains, and this isn't supposed to be a TEAM movie...but who knows.  I just couldn't see Denzel taking a role that would require him to possibly contract for several more movies.  It just seems like his career is too diverse for that.  Has the man ever done a sequel or revisited a character?  I can't think of any instances where he has...

The real rumor was that he was up against Gal Gadot for Wonder Woman but them racist bastards @ WB didn't like the idea of a black WW.

Plus his tits and ass were too big

Btw Bob I think it's bush league to delete someone's comments

It wasn't Reynolds who was at fault in Green Lantern, that was the script itself.  As for Denzel, what can I say that everybody else hasn't?  Too old, too many heroes, and John Stewart is just a little too obscure, if they go for Green Lantern then they should go for the main one, Jordan.

GL was a bad script, I don't blame RR 100%. If they add the GL to this series, I hope that It would be a JS version.

If the script is good, I'm all in.
