IGN and Dark Horizons have reported a rumor floating around regarding the possibility of Denzel Washington playing Master Chief in the upcoming film HALO.

According to the rumor, Washington is apparently the favorite for the part, no official word has been given.

The AP reported earlier this month that Washington had met with Peter Jackson in New Zealand to discuss working on an undisclosed film. Jackson is serving as executive producer on the upcoming HALO film.

Guillermo Del Toro's name has been floated as a possible director for the film, though Washington could theoretically serve that capacity as well.

Time will tell.

I think D. would be a good actor if it were not for the fact Master Chief doesn't take his helmet off. Do you think he would be in a movie where you wouldn't see his face? I think they need to see about the guy who played V or even the Rock. I think the Rock would be a strong possibility.

Allow me to remove my "everything sucks hat" for a moment. Whether or not Denzel would be a good choice really depends on the script. The HALO story as it stands is a typical lame video game story i.e. kill'em all with the biggest gun you happen to find laying about. If he left his helmet on and blew stuff up for 2 hours I would have to agree with the "nooooooo" comments. I don't want a love story and I don't want to concentrate too much on the chief's interactions with anyone, but I do want an interesting chief and Denzel could do it. I'm thinking Man on Fire or Training Day Denzel (or even the intensity he had in Glory). This is a chance to bring depth to a character that had none before, to show what happened to the MC that jacked him up so badly they turned him into a super soldier. They obviously want to put out a quality product and that makes me excited: Cool game great producer/Director Oscar Winning Actor Sci Fi. This could be the best thing to hit sci fi since Avatar and Battle Angel were announced decades ago! ;)

According to IMDB, Peter Jackson is also producing an uncasted movie called Lovely Bones. It could be he went to discuss that, but how could IGN be wrong?

Ok enough video games are video games . The movie ind. is so out of ideas they keep making these awful movies. Only Resident Evil has made money.Hey how about that long overdue Super Mario Brothers 2 . Denzel you have one 2 academy awards. Your career is not on the down-swing yet. Pass on this bomb..

I agree with everything you said Ponyboy. My only issue is that it is a video game, and if it wasn't we'd be ripping it to shreds right now talking about Aliens or Doom rip offs, and of course lack of originality. The only reason we haven't already categorized this as shite is because of all the positive factors you and I have listed (Including the kick assness of the games themselves)and not in spite of them. "Uwe Boll chooses Jessica Alba as the Master Chief"....now there's a headline fit to ridicule. I too will remain cautiously optimistic on this one despite its VG origins.

Ponyboy The answer is yes I would see it... However it just seems Hollywood is running out of original ideas. These video games are created for a reason to let people interact with the games. The players control what happens . The movies take that away. Let me ask you if this game was so good at conception why wasnt it pitched as a feature? I really do understand the popularity of these games but its not labeling that causes concern for me its the facts. Street Fighter,Mortal Combat Sequles. I cant even remember the name of the movie The Rock did.How did that game to movie do? These movies are only being made to keep intrest in these tired video games. The average gamer in America has the attention span of a med-fly. Bottom line is the video game industry lose nothing by making these movies . They got all the license money merchandise percentage. The studios dont lose money if the movie bombs its chalked up as wright off. The only people who lose are the suckers who waste ten bucks on a bad movie Then run out to store to buy the latest follow up game. They are so dissapointed by the movie they just saw they figure they can do better at the new game. Another 50-60 Bucks stolen.

Tricky, the reason A-Listers dont get Game movies is these game movies are B and C movies!! They are in the Tradition Of Ed Wood And Plan 9 From Outer Space..They are not worthy of blockbuster tag. And there is a place for these movies. MADE FOR DVD... And I did spell sequel wrong..
dax0761 7/12/2006 10:34:41 AM
Ok The comic book movies that have made it big are old standards . No up-start comic movies have yet to do any blockbuster money.. HellBoy V For Vendetta, Tank Girl and Sin City have not lived up to expectations. Even a long time figures like the Hulk have been less than Spectacular. Only Superman, Batman, Spidey and X_-Men have had great runs at the Box Office . Movies like Fantastic Four which was a boring movie to watch did well because of all of comic book to movie mania. The second was already on the board and production was on a roll before the Limited Edtion DVD was out. What next the Wonder Twins? What happened to the promising Crow Franchise? The sequels were horrible did anyone see the last 2 beside me . AWFUL. Bottom Line is things are different today with the have it now multi-media world we live in these newer comics never get the chance to become legendary figures. Between video games cartoons and the net they just become just another forgotten piece of history and that is very sad.

It all comes back that Hollywood has lost its ability to make a original action orientated movie . They bury movies like The Boondock Saints who are heros granted the only flying done is with a toilet from 4 stories. Hollywood needs an enema asap... I hope they get an orginal idea before MS. Pac Man vs Hellboy . Crap what if a studio tool is reading this!! It was joke please do not make this movie... Make this one PONG: THE RETURN EPISODE V THE FINAL FRONTIER LEGALLY BLONDE3
