Johnny Depp has joined on board Warner Bros' DARK SHADOWS, says Variety. This is an adaptation of the 60s show featuring vampires, werewolves, witches, ghosts and monsters. Reportedly, Depp loved this show as a kid so it was his pleasure to lead the project along with his production company Infinitum-Nihil.

With over 1,225 episodes of source material from the original show (which starred Jonathan Frid), they have plenty of storylines to adapt for the big screen version. The leading character of the gothic soap was Barnabas Collins, the patriarch of vampires.

Sweeeeet. I loved watching this show on the SciFi Channel when I was home sick from school. Depp is a great addition, can't wait to see what else they come up with.

I loved this show as a kid, and it will be interested to see how this movie plays out; camp or serious.

Wow, didn't even know they were working on a theatrical version. I also watched it as a kid and loved it. I never watched the newer TV version from the early 90s.Hopefully, Depp plays Barnabas.
I know a woman who loves Dark Shadows and Johnny Depp. When she hears this news she's going to prematurely give birth.

I've seen only a few of the original episodes, but I followed the revival in the early 90's religously. I had the biggest crush on Joanna Going, who played Victoria Winters in the newer version. Too bad it only lasted one season.

Anyway, I'm not sure if they're saying Johnny has a role in the film or is just serving as a producer. If he did have a role do you think it woud be Barnabas?

This is before my time. Never heard of it.
Sounds good to me though.

Holy S---! I hope he plays Barnabas. I hadn't heard of a big screen treatment, but I shouldn't be surprised. Everything else is being adapted. This gives me hope that it will be good! Yay!!

I've never seen Dark Shadows, mostly because the idea of starting on something that big is a little daunting. But Depp playing any kind of vampire, especially one like Barnabas, gets me very excited.

Depp is great and I love the show but he is not right for Barnabas Collins. I fear he will dress and act like the overly dressed Vampires of Blade the Series and Underworld. I like Underworld but the wardrobes are to black tie meets shiny robes. Sorry if thats a weird description but its not really goth or upper class just annoying and over the top.

I think that he would make a great Barnabus...I actually liked the role he had in From Hell, so I think that he could get it done without taking it too over the top.....

As a kid...this was required TV viewing....it was just a cool show to watch!

I have been saying for years that Depp would be perfect for Barnabas Collins and he should get his pal Tim Burton to direct. Burton has the right sense of the gothic epic romance/horror pic this would and should become. I hope they go with real A list actors for all the major parts. Ioan Gruffuld would make a great Quinten (if they write that character in) also Patrick Stewart as Barnabas' father and Beihl or Ricci as Josette.
