March 13, 2003... Miramax Films has picked up the movie rights to James Siegel's novel DERAILED. Former Warner Bros. president of production Lorenzo di Bonaventura is in negotiations to produce the film for Miramax.

DERAILED is a thriller that tells the story of a married middle-aged advertising executive who has a chance encounter with a younger woman on a subway ride. Eventually the two begin having an affair, and during one of their trysts they are attacked by an intruder. Once their attacker learns of their secret he begins to blackmail the executive, turning his life into one nightmare after another.

Ferbuary 6, 2004... Miramax wants Swedish helmer Mikael Hafstrom to make his English motion picture debut with the psychological thriller DERAILED. The film is about a mid-level ad executive whose life takes a turn for the worse when he is seduced by a woman he meets on a subway train. The story is based on a novel by James Siegel; the film rights to Siegel's story were picked up by Miramax in March 2003.

Hafstrom has made a number of Swedish crime dramas and thrillers including a 2003 movie titled EVIL. [The Hollywood Reporter.]

July 23, 2004... FRIENDS star Jennifer Aniston has joined Clive Owen in DERAILED, the new thriller by Swedish director Mikael Hafstrom. Based on the James Siegel novel of the same title, Owen plays an advertising executive that has a terrifying encounter with a criminal on a subway car that threatens to engulf his life and those in it.



Principal photography starts in September, with filming taking place in London and Chicago. Aniston is setting up a number of film projects now that her run on NBC's hit sitcom has drawn to a close. [Variety.]
