What They Say
For Asato Tsuzuki, a free-spirited supernatural investigator and a Guardian of Death, it's business as usual in the afterlife, until he's paired up with a new partner, Hisoka. At odds with each other, the duo must cooperate to solve grisly cases involving serial killers, vampires and demons. Directly from the anime series, the soundtrack to "Descendants of Darkness" features 28 tracks of sublime, exquisite music, including the TV size versions of the opening song, 'Eden' and the show's ending theme 'Love Me.'

Based on the popular bishounen manga series, available on DVD and as English language graphic novels, this soundtrack also features a full-color insert booklet with lyrics and song titles translated in English, as well as romanized lyrics.

The Review!
This reminds me at turns of a Malice Mizer album (because of the Gothic overtones), a classic passion-play opera (because of the choral motions), and the instrumental bits from a Riverdance-esque musical (because of the prevalent use of light woodwinds and mainly Northern Euro-centric instruments). It seems to be a strange trend in the latest crop of albums to come over to this side of the pond: the Japanese went through a Celtic phase. Not that I'm complaining. This whole album is great fun, and full of mood music. Hope you're in the mood!

Best Track: Talisman. This track best represents the tone of the anime series and the overall Gothic fantasy feel of the album.
Skip-it Track: Love Me (TV Version). I try to not skip the vocal tracks on a disc, as they are often strong examples of what stands tall in entertainment at the time of the anime's production. However, this track is just not good enough.
