Designer lends MAGNETO, GREEN LANTERN insights

Kilowog in the movie!

You've seen character designer Aaron Sims' work in 'Incredible Hulk' and 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor'. And, if he has his way, you'll be seeing his work soon in the planned X-Men spin-off 'X-Men Origins: Magneto'.

Although the film was hampered by the recent WGA strike, Sims told MTV Splash page the movie is now due for some rewrites. Like sister project 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', the Magneto movie will incorporate familiar Marvel mutants. However Sims is mum on who those characters will be and how they'll be presented.

"The fan base has a vision of what they should look like, and that’s always the challenge," Sims said. "It was the same with ‘The Hulk.’" Sims' designs for The Abomination in that movie were met with fan resistance.

Sims said that fans can expect the 'Magneto' movie to be dark and serious-minded.

"Remember the scene [from 'X-Men'] in the concentration camp where you see Magneto as a young boy? It just continues from there," Sims said. "Some people thought that might be too dark, but I really like that. It’s a lot of death and mayhem."

Sims also revealed that he's been busy with other projects, including matte paintings for 'The Spirit' and work on the 'Green Lantern' movie.

In what may be a revelation, Sims told Splash Page that he recently designed the suit for Kilowog, Hal Jordon's burly, non-human trainer in the Green Lantern Corps.

I'm liking the sound of the Magneto flick. Really haven't been that interested in it but still have hope that it'll be good. But if Goyer directs it my expectations will drop like a bomb. Let's face it the guy should stick to writing and leave directing to the pros.

Hear Hear wiseguy. Goyer had his fun, time to go back to the desk. I'm hoping for a good take on this franchise. With GL's powers the vision has to be epic. I mean here's a guy with THEE most powerful weapon in the UNIVERSE and it's only limits are the ring bearer's imagination. I told my kids this when we would watch JL and they'd be like, "how can GL every be in serious trouble with a power like that." And then they'd go on with what they'd do and how they'd do it, and since it's power's are limitless I, for once, couldn't tell them that that doesn't make sense or isn't possible. I really can't see how this movie should be done, but I'm eager to find out how this will turn out.

I would just like to see some actual movement on some of these projects. They were talking about Magneto at the same time as they began talking about Wolverine and that is already filming. GL has been talked about forever. They have a script and a director and apparently a ton of concept art. Why wait until spring of next year to begin? What about Supermax? Apparently that script has been approved for months now, and there's been nothing on that. Hell, I don't think Kick-Ass had even been announced when Wanted came out some 3 months ago, and they're already filming! I'm tired of reading about projects getting greenlit in Hollywood, then they vanish forever. If they're not ready to go on a project, they should just shut their pie holes until it's a reality! Ugh. This is what happens when I post before I get to my 2nd cup o' joe...

*Incredible Hulk movie spoiler alert, Dark Knight spoiler alert* What was wrong with Abomination in Incredible Hulk? It worked for its part. Best part of that movie when Blonsky (still human, but hopped up on super soldier formula) fought Hulk on the college campus. For about fifteen seconds of pure awesomeness it was like we were watching Captain America fight the Hulk. I'd say that moment is tied with the Joker making a pencil disappear as "best comic book movie moment ever." And yeah, Dark needs to stop being a buzz word. We get it, everything needs to be dark and gritty, but with a quirky, off-beat sense of humor.

Just give me GL already damnit! At least tell me who is being cast as Hal so I can be happy or bitch about it. Either way just give me the GL movie!!

captm0rgan' GL's actual limit is his will power. That's why a strong enough foe, personal tragedy, fear or mental attacks may be able to break a GL. They are not omnipotent, though pretty close if their mind and will power allow it. Amish, you're completely right about the use of dark. I'm also tired of TDK comparisons.

I too am tired of the DARK term usage. As for GL, I'm not totally up on him. Cool Character, but I never read it. Still I'm ready for a movie. Now Magneto I would love to see, but I wonder if non fans would???

I too am tired of "dark" and how everything needs to be that way. GL needs to be full-blown sci-fi/action fun--don't know if 'gritty' or dark is necessary. I'd like to see more proof that it's going to happen. Much like Thor, it seems to be out there like Voldemort with no body to inhabit. Not sure how I feel about a Magneto movie. It would have to wow me with a great script and much better action scenes than what we were given in the X-films. I still contend that Singer's X-movies are both overrated. I liked X2 a lot, but every action scene was one-on-one, there was no 'team' action that makes superhero teams fun to watch or read about. Loved the Nightcrawler attack on the White House, but every other fight scene was so-so. They didn't even have them work together when the X-mansion was being attacked. Lame. Give me the team battle from Incredibles any day over the X-films and Fantastic 4.

I'm sure he has been wearing a Green Lantern uniform for the past 15 years. Please don't tell me that the Green Lantern Uniform has been redesigned to be black leather x-men style garb. I will vomit ! Stop screwing with what already works. No need to reinvent the wheel. just give us a brilliant Green Lantern trilogy of movies !
