Millar Overseer of the Fox Marvel Movies

The Whedon equivalent

By Robert T. Trate     September 28, 2012
Source: Bleeding Cool

Since many of the Marvel Comic Book properties are still under contract to 20th Century Fox, Marvel has made smart move. Much like Joss Whedon is in charge of the Avengers Movie Universe, Marvel has placed comic book scribe Mark Millar in charge of the Fox Marvel Movie Universe.

This means Millar will now oversee The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four

Mark Millar released the following the statement:

“As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both.
I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents.
James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had”.
Does Millar overseeing these properties make you feel excited or nervous Maniacs?

well bravo maybe it doesn't look like a sinking ship over at fox anymore.

It makes sense for Fox. They intend to make money off of their piece of the Mighty Marvel pie., so it's a good idea to get a veteran comics supervisor.

I know alot of people don't like Millar or the focus of evil in the comics movie world (Fox). But if you want to end up with good comic book product on the screen (which is really all I want.) This might be the right route.

I also read somewhere that Patrick Stewart hinted that he might be playing Xavier again. I wonder if that has something to do with the Days of Future Past storyline for the First Class movie.

I don't like this one bit because I want FF to come back to Disney/Marvel.

Fox can keep X-men. They have ruined it enough as it is.

I think it's a good idea to have someone in charge who knows, loves & understands the marvel universe. And given Millar's background he's a solid choice for the job.Its good to know there's some solidarity over there.Definately need to have one person in charge to oversee everything.Sometimes people get wrapped up in their own movie & just run off with their own made up nonsense & it ends up on screen & unfortunately it completely screws up the chance for all the movies to gell together. Its just too bad that fox & marvel couldn't just put their differences aside so their could be just one marvel universe.Cuz the way things are now robs us fans of the chance to see  a full complete marvel universe(X-Men,Spiderman,Fantastic Four,Daredevil on screen with the Avengers). But at least this will hopefully ensure a quality product ending up on screen.

dude studios don't care about fans just there big almighty dollar in the fans pocket movie to there wallets!

vagabondster 9/28/2012 8:31:38 AM

true they care more about the dollar but how can you not look at the revenue from the Avengers (or any of its preceding movies) and NOTwant to emulate that business model? they see that fans will pay(sometimes multiple times) to see a quality movie thats faithful to its source material. it really ends up being a win-win proposition

alienstatue 9/28/2012 8:57:18 AM

Fox's Shared Universe! It's got my attention.

Mythos 9/28/2012 9:26:07 AM

vagabondster i'll redirect your how can they not see to a seminar done with kevin smith about how the hollywood producer for superman lives kept on trying to change the source material cause he liked it better that way and didnt care about revenue and fans and only about what would get more toys to sell and lets not forget brett ratners script for superman where it had him fighting his ninja cousin and krypton never exploded. why that script cause rattner wanted his idea better then the source material and didnt care about fans or there thoughts why? cause if i make it they will come and see it mentality rather then what we want to see. case in point x-men last stand talk about left field source material!

I liked Wanted well enought and Kick Ass was allright but it's kind of hard to see Millar as the ideal candidate for this job.  Movies of his own books seem to have deviated pretty far from source material and he is best known for the sort of foul-mouthed disrespectful characters and settings.  I'm totally OK with that but it really isn't in keeping with titles like FF.  Millar is also an obnoxious braggart, even for a talented guy.

reek I'm giving your comment 2 thumbs up
