Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles, LLC and MGM have announced a new license agreement for action figures based on the popular and long-lived Sci-Fi Channel series, Stargate SG-1 and its popular spin-off, Stargate: Atlantis.

"The Stargate universe is a perfect match for DST," said Chuck Terceira, Director of Diamond Select Toys. "We know the fans will love our attention to detail and commitment to delivering their favorite characters right from the show. Stargate has been incredibly successful and we knew it was time to take advantage of both shows' continuing popularity."

Stargate SG-1 is currently airing its ninth season on the Sci-Fi Channel as part of their Sci-Fi Friday lineup while Stargate: Atlantis has entered its second season. Both series have received critical acclaim for their writing, acting, special effects and more. With no signs of slowing down and exceeding 2 million viewers per episode, there does not appear to be an end in sight for the Stargate world.

"We are delighted to partner with Diamond Select Toys to bring a range of Stargate action figures to market. Their quality and attention to detail are renowned and make them the perfect partner for our premium sci-fi franchise" said Travis Rutherford, EVP of MGM Consumer Products &Location Based Entertainment.

The master sculptors of Jean St. Jean Studios and Plan B will provide highly detailed sculpts for the Stargate lines based on the series' stars, including Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks and Christopher Judge. Specific product announcements, as well as timetables for their release dates, will be featured in future Diamond Select Toys communications.

Retirement. He's been announcing his retirement from acting since Season6 when they first announced the show's cancellation. The show got renewed, and the producers somehow convinced the guy to do "one more season" with everybody figuring the show would get killed off after Season7. He agreed to postpone his retirement one more year. At the end of Season7, again, much to everyone's surprise, the show got renewed, and again, the production crew and cast managed to talk Mr. Anderson (Darn it, can't even type that without hearing Agent Smith's voice) into doing "one more season." He's currently semi-retired, still doing some producer duties but nobody's been able to convince him to agree to more than a few guest shots on the show, so I guess he meant it this time.

His last press releases suggest that he's spending more time with his family and doing some photo ops for some animal rights groups (though I wish he had chosen a group that's a bit more reputable). Just wish him well and hope he doesn't get eaten by a baby seal.

I give Anderson credit for not "pulling a Duchovny" and insisting the entire production pull up stakes and move to his own backyard - after which he would quit anyway.

It's about time this series got its own line of action figures. I'm not sure what the hold-up was, it's obviously a lucrative fanboy property.

The reason the Anderson left and is doing guest apperences is that he whanted to spend more time with his child
