Back in 2001,
SURVIVOR producer Mark Burnett's grueling Eco-Challenge event attracted the involvement of what seemed to be the unlikeliest of candidates, former Playboy centerfolds. The one-man, three-women Team Playboy X-treme competed in the Borneo Eco-Challenge and faced not only physical hardship to cover 300 miles in a week's time, but the preconceptions that they couldn't complete the task they faced.
One husband of the ex-Playmates has turned his wife's life-changing experience into a writing gig. 20th Century Fox has bought writer Mark Steilen's pitch for
X-GIRLS, the movie title for Team Playboy X-treme's story. Steilen's take is to make the film a female empowerment comedy with some dramatic overtones. Cameron Diaz is attached to play one of the three Playmates-turned-Eco-Challengers. If Diaz commits to the project, it will still likely be a year to two before s space in her calendar opens up and the cameras start to roll.
