While the first pairing (Gangs of New York) of the two didn't produce any awards, the last teamwork did give Martin Scorsese that long awaited statue for The Departed. This time around, they're joining together to adapt a Dennis Lehane thriller called SHUTTER ISLAND. Paramount Pictures and Columbia will be co-producing the film, Paramount handling domestic sales while Columbia oversees international.

Plot Concept: Drama is set in 1954, with DiCaprio in final talks to play U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, who is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island.

I thought that the Departed was good, but also quite over hyped...(spoiler) I just like the fact that everyone died....atypical Hollywood ending....I actually saw Blood Diamond and Departed in the same day and like Blood Diamond more.......well, these two have been making some good movies, so I would not mind seeing another pairing. Leo is one of the better actors out there today, and yet someone seems to stay out of the tabloids. Good for him.

Yeah, he has grown up to be a really damn good actor. He was great in both The Departed and Blood Diamond. Well, when he was younger, like right after Growing Pains, he was in the tabloids alot. I guess he grew out of that Lohan, Paris, Corey Haims crap.

I agree. Damn good actor and seems to be making pretty good choices as far as movie roles go. Which leads me to believe that it will be a good movie. Scorsese doesn't hurt the matter either.

I guess Leo really is Scorsese's new De Niro. This will be their 4th film now? I want Scorsese to do another gangster flick.

Alright - I'll take some heat for this...I just don't think Scorsese is all that great. And this movie, although well written and acted, I found really poorly directed. Leo did good, Wahlberg was phenomenal, but I think MS didn't direct Jack for shit and, as a result, I found him to be a distraction to an otherwise good movie. I respect what he's done in the past, but I don't think The Departed was that well put together.

You will take heat rojam, because Scorsese is one of the best directors of all time. He is easily right up there with Peckinpah, Kirosawa, Hitchcock, Lucas, Cameron, Speilberg. The only other 2 directors that show NYC as beautifully are Woody Allen and Spike Lee. And no one shows grime, grit and crime like MS.

I still want to see Scorcese do a SF flick. This sounds cool though, and I think Scorcese and Dicaprio have a fantastic track record together.
craigtnelson 10/23/2007 1:23:59 PM
Rojam, I gotta give you a little heat because Scorcese is the best. That being said, I also found Nicholson to be more comical than menacing in The Departed, and it wasn't half the film that Goodfellas was.
gauleyboy420 10/23/2007 1:58:04 PM
scoundrel, Thats a fucking great idea. And Rojam Scorsese is THE MAN! Nicholson was just as good as DiCaprio, and Wahlberg in the departed, not to mention Alec Baldwin, what a surprise. I love him on 30 Rock, and in the Departed.
hanso 10/23/2007 2:21:17 PM
Ponyboy did you just put Lucas in the great directors list? lol. dude, didnt you see the new Star Wars trilogy?.......the guy can come up with good stories and maybe even write them but direct, come on! The Departed wasnt half the film that Goodfellas was? True, but most films aren't half the film the Goodfellas was. That's the third best gangster film of all time in my opinion. First 2 you ask? You know the answer to that. Coppola's Godfather I and II.
