A JoBro for SPIDER-MAN?

This is not a casting rumor. The following name is NOT attached to Marc Webb and Sony's 'Spider-Man' reboot in any meaningful way. If this were an actual casting rumor you would have been instructed to voice your panic in the comments section below.

Never the less, there is a fan campaign afoot to get the producers of the new web-slinger film to consider Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers fame. It started on Twitter and caught fire Demetria Lovato (Joe's co-star in the TV movie 'Camp Rock') tweeted it to her fans.

Now there are thousands of JoBro fans tweeting with the hash tag #joejonas4spiderman.

So Joe Jonas is likely not on anyone's list to play Peter Parker in the new movie, but the notion that he could be definitely has life on Twitter.

THOR Crashes Del Mar

The California coastal city of Del Mar will host Marvel's 'Thor' very soon. According to the Del Mar Times, the city is negotiating with the studio to film a scene on one of the beaches. According to report, 'Thor' requires a 300-yard stretch of Del Mar beach for a scene involving six horses running down the terrain.

Thanks to CaptainSigma for the submission.

Giamatti Hopeful for GOON Movie

Last year actor Paul Giamatti lent his voice to a CG-animated demo short version of Eric Powell's fantastic comic 'The Goon'. The clip was produced by David Fincher and starred Clancy Brown as the title character (with Giamatti voicing the diminutive but cranky sidekick Frankie). The whole thing was produced at Blur Studio.

When recently asked about the movie by MTV Splash Page, the actor he's on board for a feature.

"We did a short little teaser thing of it that was great," Giamatti told MTV News. "And hopefully it actually happens, you know? I was not aware of that comic book at all."

Although the full feature version still seems to have a question mark over it, Giamatti added, "So, yeah, I am involved, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully they do it."

Waltz Spoils GREEN HORNET?

The folks over at Superhero Hype got a chance to chat with actor Christoph Waltz at the recent Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The actor is well known to fans for his sizzling turn as the villain in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglorious Basterds'. He also signed on for the villain role in Michel Gondry and Seth Rogen's 'Green Hornet' feature.

Of course, the Hypsters asked him about his role that crime-fighter pic.

"Well, because he's a competitor [to Rogen's Britt Reid/Green Hornet]," Waltz said of his character. "There's a misunderstanding between the two of them and they have to sort it out through the course of the movie."

But then Waltz goes on to reveal what looks to be a major spoiler for the film. We won't run it here, but click through for the reveal.

Sarsgaard Looks Up to his GREEN LANTERN Father

At the same Santa Barbar event, Superhero Hype also chatted up Peter Sarsgaard, who is in the other emerald superhero movie, 'Green Lantern'.

The actor is cast as the villainous Hector Hammond in his film. He was a bit less forthcoming in talking about the specifics of his character, but had plenty to say about Tim Robbins, who is cast as his father in the movie.

"He gave me my first job - 'Dead Man Walking,'" Sarsgaard said. "I think he looks at me like I'm this young guy that was in this movie. I think you're always that to someone. I look at him like he was the guy that gave me my first job and I have immense respect for him. He does not feel like an equal to me. He feels like a God. He's a lot taller than I am."

Kalogridis on GHOST IN THE SHELL

SuperHeroHype teases an upcoming interview with 'Shutter Island' writer Laeta Kalogridis that will appear tonight on their sister site ShockTilYouDrop.

Among her numerous projects, Kalogridis is penning the script for the planned live-action adaptation of 'Ghost in the Shell' from DreamWorks and Steven Spielberg.

"I'm hoping that the draft will come in pretty soon and I'm hoping he'll like it. DreamWorks had the material and I have loved it for years and years and years," Kalogridis said. "They contacted me about it when they found out that I was interested. I mean, there's just no other property quite like it. It could actually be three two-hour movies, which is what I would vote for, but it's the seminal cyberpunk text as something like 'Neuromancer.' I mean, it really just is, and there's nothing else like it..

Best news going here is about the possibility of the full legnth Goon Film! Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti voicing...talk about perfect casting!! I'm a long time pal of Eric Powell and definitely hope this works out for him!

Here's to Goon. Love to see that.

jfdavis 2/15/2010 11:04:32 AM

Walz's spoiler really isn't a spoiler as that seems to happen to every villian in superhero movies now starting way back with Tim Burton's Batman in '89...

After seeing Percy Jackson this past weekend, he's the Peter Parker I'm going with. Sure the Jonas Brothers kind of look like him, as does Adam Lambert frankly,  he sems a better caliber actor... What's next? Emily Osmet as MJ? Just give Disney back the rights already!

That PERCY JACKSON kid looks the part for Peter...

The comment box keeps telling me I have "exsessive profanity" in my post even though I clearly do not.  What the F*CK is the deal?

I love that Spielberg is attached to the live action Ghost in the Shell movie. It makes me feel a whole lot better about it in general about the project. It should turn out better than I expect the live action Akira.

Oh and for the record the Ghost in the Shell manga came out in 1989. Neuromancer came out in 1984. Every Cyberpunk movie, novel, and comic ever made basically ripped off of Neuromancer's gig. Gibson even coined the term "cyberspace" in his collection of short stories "Burning Chrome".

All praise William Gibson, Godfather of modern Cyberpunk.

As for Spiderman if a Jonas brother is cast I am not going to watch it. I do not care how good the rest of the film is. I am glad it is just a bunch of moronic teens clamoring for their favorite idiot music(a term that is debatable) star. Hopefully the Jonas Brothers all die in a terrible plane wreck in the next couple days so it will never happen.

I'm already gonna have to be MEGA impressed to go see Brand New Day (Spidey Re-boot) as it is.

If a Jonas gets attached in any wayshape or form, I'll burn all of my spidey comics...

Can't wait for the GL movie, Glad Sinestro is going to be a lantern in the first one, it'll make his betrayal that much more impactful in the sequel

ThemanG01 2/15/2010 7:57:32 PM

I'm not likely to see the new Spider-Man movie regardless of who's starring in it.  I've never seen any of the Jonas Brothers try to act, but their involvement wouldn't dissuade me anymore than I already am.  But on the flipside, if I were inclined to see it and they were in it, I'd watch it.  Maybe it's just me getting old and losing my staunch disdain towards everything mainstream but that kind of thing bothers me less and less.

axia777 2/15/2010 10:06:45 PM

I would not care if the Jonas Brothers were main stream or not.  They would suck monkey choad either way.  I seriously doubt that they can act.  If they could they would be doing movies all ready.  It is just some dumb assed idea from the freak fans of the JoBros who blow(each other that is).

Roqueja 2/16/2010 7:29:15 AM

It wouldn't matter to me who fills the webshooters, as long as he can act, and fits the part perfectly.  I have no other work to compare to, so to assume that the Jo Bros can't act would seem to be premature.  The kids may have a hidden talent that they haven't shared just yet.  Maybe I just don't understand the hate without anything to refer to.  I'm more of a Steel Panther fan when it comes to music, so I've never heard the Jonas Brothers.
