Diesel for 2nd Marvel Project

This one arrives in 2016

It appears that Vin Diesel has another Marvel Project in the works. Before you get all crazy, if he does indeed voice Groot (he confirms it here) that doesn’t mean he couldn’t play another character physically on screen. My vote is for the Vision (hence the header). This has been done before in Hollywood and as recently as The Lord of the RIngs Trilogy. John Rhys-Davies played both Gimli and Treebeard and that certainly didn’t seem to bother anyone.

Here are several noteworthy excerpts from his interview with Maria Menounos:

When I met with Marvel it wasn’t for anything immediate, it was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel, not for a few years. You wouldn’t be able to see it for a few years. In my mind, Marvel were doing it right, they were enrolling me at the ground level which is the best way to enroll me”.

“I get the call, I go down to Marvel. A great meeting. It was even talking about something so big I can’t even talk about because it’s like the merging of brands in a way, which I won’t get into. That was something way, way, way, way, way down the road”.

“Quite frankly, it would have been too much to say and it might have been anticlimactic to say ‘We’re working on something for 2016’ and so I just said “You’re going to hear some really big news” and I left at the end of that and it went crazy”.

Then later, Diesel goes on to confirm that the 2016 project is happening, and he is still involved, even while he’s voicing Groot.

“The next Monday, Marvel talks to me and says “We’re going to send something over in two weeks. We want to focus on the 2016 but we also want to, if possible, answer this growing request for something now.” I don’t have six months to play a character in the immediate future, it’s all booked… there was no way I was going to be able to deliver… after Comic-Con, we were at a stalemate…”

So who else would you want Vin Diesel to play int he Marvel Movie Universe?

This could work especially given that he only has one line, "I am Groot."

Sorry Robert, it won't be like Lord of the Rings, Diesel won't be playing two characters in the same movie.  Even if he did it wouldn't be Vision, Vision has no connection with the modern Guardians (and only a tenuous connection with the classic team).  What caught my attention was Diesels remark of "merging the brands", Avengers/X-Men maybe?  Or even a Marvel/DC thing?  I'm looking forward to more news.

What if the Guardians and the Avengers team up for the Kree- Skrull war?

I think the "merging of brands" could mean Spider-Man and Wolverine are going to be in Avengers 3. Some deal might be struck between studios. It sounds way too big to be anything less. Of course, I could be wrong.

If that's the case, I really wish Tobey Maguire was still playing Spider-Man.

That's the big rumour I heard too about "merging of brands" is the crossing of Marvel Studios with Sony or Fox.  Since DC/Warner will have all of their characters in one movie with JL from the MOS2 build up, it's only fitting Marvel does the same.

I'm going out on a limb here but maybe Silver Surfer? he's got the physique, the chrome dome and a cool voice. FF/Surfer in Avengers 3 vs Thanos?

I love the Lord of the Rings movies, and it bugged the PISS out of me that John Rhys-Davies also did Treebeard...lol.  Ah well, I'll let Marvel piss me off too.

Vin Diesel would be a good choice to play The Vision. He already has the haircut.

CalamityJohnson 9/9/2013 1:38:39 PM

it bugged you that much? seriously, I didn't even know he did both until after, and it still doesn't bother in the slightest... lame

Wiseguy 9/9/2013 1:58:10 PM

He means Riddick will be part of the MCU. Maybe he'll join the GOTG as yet another rebel running afoul of the law :)
