A month after Columbia Pictures, director Rob Cohen and lead star Vin Diesel announced their return to the XXX franchise in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Cohen has passed along an update to Frosty over at Collider that they have made the release goal the summer of 2010. He also let us know that writers are getting together with the producers and they hope to have production rolling by next spring.

"Yes, they're doing it with me and producer Joe Roth. We made the deal recently, it's named xXx: The Return of Xander Cage. We met the writers yesterday and we're trying to get into production by late spring, to have it out for the summer of 2010."

The original Sony film starred Diesel and hit theaters April 9, 2002. Based around a production budget of $70 million, the film would go on to gross $277.4 million worldwide. The actor took a break from the 2005 sequel which found Ice Cube as the lead character instead.

The way I see it....... this asshole owes me $7.50 from the 1st one. That's an hour and a half I can never get back.

You are just not "X"treme enough for the movie Flint. It's just a brainless fun movie. 2nd one sucked hard however even for brainless.

How the hell are they going to come up with a believeable story line to bring Vin Deisel's character back. You may remember In the 2nd movie they had said that Xander Cage was killed in Bora Bora. If it was'nt for the visual effects and the stunt work (props to the stunt men) I would've never seen the first two movies.

Very true Chris....but despite being told he was dead, they didn't exactly bother to locate the body either, considering the XXX Organization came under attack from the get-go so not much time to mount a through crime scene investigation and most of their agents wound up dead as well. Now of course in the XXX SPECIAL EDITION which has the final chapter of Xander Cage (aka Vin Diesel's look-alike stunt double) he went into the mansion where Asia Argento's character was supposedly waiting on him inside.....he enters, then suddenly BOOM!!!

But something told me when STATE OF THE UNION flopped at the box office 3 years ago, I knew they were gonna someway go right back to Diesel and somehow manage to create an inventive way to where reports of his deaths were greatly exaggerated. And since Diesel last hit movie was the very entertaining PACIFIER...which of course was by Disney, people are still giving him flack from the domino effect over the abundance of too much undeserving criticism that was THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK which some will say is a better film than people are willing to give credit for. Is Riddick great? No....but its a decent cerebral movie in which people were still baffled that it was the sequel to PITCH BLACK. Some people still don't realize its a sequel.

And after BABYLON A.D. (no surprise by the way) flopped....Diesel lost his luster as an action star, but has always been a very likeable guy. He may gain some of that luster back with FAST AND THE FURIOUS 4, in which the franchise really suffered since he left because the sequels have been absolutely laughable. But lets not forget, we are talking about Rob Cohen so his absence was only minor compared to Cohen's droll directing. Though he did crank out a good XXX and FF1, he has simply become a lame director since.

First, Flint is a Tard. The first movie is what it is. A funny little action flick that does not need to be real to enjoy. Hell the "heatsinking rocket" that he used towards the end of the movie has a video camera as the sighting device. the same camera model, in fact that i own. Very believable.

Second, Dazzler is right, the second one was only a half step above dog crap. And it only rates that because I did get a good hour and twenty minutes of sleep.

Third, Chris, everyone knows that NO ONE dies in Bora Bora. Everyone also knows that it was a clone that was found dead. Xander cage was in a secret under water hide out, bumping uglies with the Russian chick. it is actually very simple. and it makes perfect sence.

I thought the first was mediocre at best and the second was just plain bad yet I am sure that I'll be sitting at the theater opening day for this. I can only hope that they come up with a better film and I think Cohen will.

Never actually saw either of the movies, but I have the 1st one on my queue. Looked like your basic, mindless action movie. Since they created a new xXx for the 2nd, I think they should continue the trend and go for a new one in the 3rd, but I guess not. I would like to see Diesel return to form, though. I've always thought he was a pretty decent actor and had potential to be a good action actor. Guess not. Instead, he'll just keep going back to cheesy sequels of tired franchises.

I still think Vin Diesel's best movie is Chronicles of Riddick. Despite a lame scene or 2, this movie was the most underrated Sci-Fi movie. He Rocked in this movie yo!! Hope they make the sequel for this instead of XXX

Wiseguy 10/29/2008 9:56:55 AM

VIOlator, you may be in luck cause not long ago the prospect od continuing the Riddick franchise was written about. So it may get done. I enjoyed it quite a bit myself and the character has almost limitless potential. But special effects aside I enjoyed Pitch Black much more but both are definitely underrated.

I didn't say it wasn't "real" enough I said I didn't like this movie. My opinion. If that makes me a tard then so be it.
