Special effects film Digital Domain continues its run on optioning properties to be developed into its own productions. The company's latest acquisition has been the film rights to Richard Bach's novel
ILLUSIONS: THE ADVENTURES OF A RELUCTANT MESSIAH and French filmmaker Yann Samuell is attached to direct the picture. Digital Domain will produce the film in partnership with Barnet Bain Films, the same company that they're involved with in their movie version of Dan Simmons'
ILLUM.
Bach's books are mixtures of self-help philosophy woven together with fantastic elements and usually the author included as one of the main characters in each adventure. For example,
ILLUSIONS is about an encounter with a amateur pilot (Bach) and a stranger named Donald Shimoda who claims to be a messiah. As the two journey together, Shimoda dispenses advice to Bach on how he too can become a messiah by creating order from a chaotic life.
