Directing BATMAN--a Piece of Pi?
Darren Aronofsky is the latest entry in WB's game of Musical Directors. By Frederick C. Szebin

Low-budget auteur Darren Aronofsky, whose film 'Pi' made waves a couple years ago, is currently the latest possible director for the revitalization of Warner Brothers' comatose BATMAN franchise. With a darker vision of Gotham's Dark Knight than Joel Schumacher's ridiculous BATMAN AND ROBIN (just what was it with those cod pieces and molded nipples?!) in preference, Aronofsky would be a good choice should he survive the fidgety studio's game of Director Musical Chairs. No one seems to be taking seriously Roger Ebert's and the late Gene Siskel's excellent idea that the team of director Alex Proyas and scribe David S. Goyer (Dark City) be given the chance to breath a new life into Batman, which is a shame. Just as long as they keep screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (BATMAN AND ROBIN) away from it.
