The cameras may soon begin to roll for another film based on a celebrated children's book. Gary Winick (
13 GOING ON 30) has been hired as the director of Paramount's new adaptation of
CHARLOTTE'S WEB, giving the project a much-needed push forward toward being greenlit. The film's script, by Susannah Grant and Karey Kirkpatrick, is already complete and awaits casting.
Unlike the 1973 animated version of
CHARLOTTE'S WEB, Paramount's version will be a combination of live-action and computer generated imagery. The book, by E.B. White, tells the story of a farm pig named Wilbur and his friend, a spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is eyed by the farmer to be slaughtered, Charlotte captures the attention of the humans around her by spinning a web above Wilbur's pen that contains a word. As the media spotlight dies down and Wilbur's beck is again on the chopping block, Charlotte spins another web containing another word...and another, and so on, until Wilbur's life is saved.
