While doing a press junket for his upcoming Fred Claus film, director David Dobkin has informed MTV that he's now in charge of the upcoming FLASH film. Dobkin also confirmed that his film won't be hitting theaters until after JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA hits theaters, marking his film as a spin-off direct from that film's universe. He added that the Flash they will use is Wally West from the comic series.

Before the JLA production took center stage, Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) and David Goyer were previously attached to direct this comic adaptation.

Bait the hook now, 10 years in advance.

Exact same thoughts tinged with doubts.

As I said a few days ago on another article, Warner Bros. needs to remember putting one leg before the next in their rush to the finish line.

Production hasn't even begun on JLA. Not a single shot filmed. Yet, they're hiring another director to plan the FLASH spin-off...two years before JLA even hits theaters?

I thought I read somewhere that The Flash in this new JLA pic (if it gets made) was Barry Allen, but this new director attached to The Flash spin off is saying that they are using Wally West, so how exactly is this gonna be a spin off of JLA?

Good point, DarkJedi...Probably, what it is, is there are two scripts (JLA & FLASH), probably penned by the same writing team, and WB has a set budget for both films, but it seemed more likely the JLA budget is considerably more than the Flash spin-off (i.e., special effects, costumes, building sets, etc.). Honestly, the JLA flick might be a cheesy disaster...Then again, I said the same thing back in Summer 99' when I found out Marvel was doing an X-Men movie, and that movie grossed over, what? hundred million (Anybody knows exactly what X-Men grossed, domestic & international?)

What is everyone's opinion on the CBS's defunct, 1990-91 The Flash series? Think it could have done well for more seasons? Does anybody know for a fact if that old Flash tv series when premiered, was out of order, episode wise?

Watcher, a rumor (everything is a rumor so far) I read somewhere was that they kill Barry and show the transition to Wally.
As far as hiring directors well in advance, that's nothing new. It'll give them time to switch directors the moment they don't agree with his vision ala Superman.
I think Warner is going to blow this whole thing with the way they seem to be rushing these projects. They're already worrying about spin-offs and they don't even have a cast in place. I say disregard the strike and take the time to do it right and get the right cast in place.
Popeye, I liked the Flash series. Thing is Flash apparently isn't loved, or as well known to the mainstream public (outside of comic fans) as Supes, Bats or Spidey. That's why I don't think the series would've fared well on a major network back then. Now the way networks pop-up you can have that series on a cable network where the expectations (ratings) won't be that high, because you target a more specific audience.

The Superman and the Batman franchises aren't going to tie into JLA... why bother with a spin-off for Flash?

He may not be as big as Supes or Bats, but he still is noteable enough with the average moviegoer that he could carry his own movie. (Much moreso than Ironman, Daredevil, or Elektra among others.)

I think DC and the Warners are dropping the ball. They are getting freaked out by Marvels success and trying (poorly ) to play catch up,ironic seeing as how they were so far ahead of Marvel for years. Anyway they should keep their cool and focus on making quality franchises out of their characters, THEN focus on JLA. Marvel does not put out one film at a time, and they certainly aren't putting Avengers ahead of the solo films. It is way better to introduce the characters in their own movies then eventually bring out a heavy hitting team movie. I'll bet thats what Marvel is gonna do with Avengers.
Flash is mainstream enough for a movie. He's more mainstream than the first (big-budget, and decently made) Marvel film, Blade.
I also loved the Flash tv series and I'm planning on picking it up this week.

Good point gauleyboy, except for The Batman series, DC and Warner Bro are messing everything up. What I don't get is the poor selection of directors, writers, and actors. Look at Superman Returns, it was rested for almost 20 yrs and then Singer put that crap out. They need to get it through their head, that you can't just get subpar teennie bopper actors to play these parts, or directors who will go on and say they love characters and then throw an M Night twist in it. Look at the Spiderman series, it is clear that the actors and directors did their research and tried to pay as much respect to the comic and the fans. The Batman series has done the same thing, Richard Donner did it back in the 70's and 80's, so what is DC and Warner Bro problem? I have seen the rumors of actors and writers and it is clear that there is no respect to the comic books or us fans. Now this Flash stuff, I though that JLA rumors were bad, now Flash will be with Wally West instead of Barry Allen, great. Oh and finally, I was very disappointed with the Superman Doomsday video. The first part of it was OK, but after his death, what in the hell was all that crap!!!

I really enjoyed the Flash TV series. I can't swear to it, but I think one of the biggest troubles with the Series was not so much the fan base, but the cost for each episode was way above what they were putting into shows back then.

It's sad that a TV series got the costume better than most of the comic based feature films that have come out. I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'.

I never liked the Flash TV series. It was just too much influenced by the success of Tim Burton's Batman which had just been a big hit. They borrowed too much from the movie that worked fine for Bats but didn't fit the Speedster: always appearing at night, the Burton-like "comic book" gothic style, etc.
