Director Phil Alden Robinson is steamed over Paramount Picture's choice to reveal a huge part of his latest, Tom Clancy's SUM OF ALL REARS, in the ads for the film.
In an interview with THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, Robinson said he was "ambivalent" about Paramount's choice.
"On the one hand I didn't want [the studio] to give away the surprise," Robinson said, about the ads showing the effects of a terrorist nuclear bombing on the city of Baltimore. "On the other, I'm happy they aren't hiding from what this movie is about."
Producer Mace Neufeld, who has produced all the big screen versions of Clancy's JACK RYAN series so far, said he was glad Paramount is not shrugging away from the terrorism story.
"They decided early on they would market this film for what it is -- which is a cautionary tale -- and not try to sneak it in," Neufeld said.
