David Yates has told SCI FI Wire that he will return to direct HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE

Yates said, "I am doing HALF-BLOOD PRINCE, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters. I think I have more business with this world and these characters."

"I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film," Yates said. "And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it."

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE is in preproduction and is scheduled to be released in November 2008.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens on July 13.

Don't forget "I love the money".

I'm with you. I wonder how much he gets paid.

Probably less than the other directors, based on repuation. The jury's still out on how good Order of the Phoenix is going to be but this looks like a promising sign from the studio. They must like what they got this time around. And the trailer's fun, too.

Trailer looks good; hope this one's a hit. If so, he can write himself a nice paycheck for HBP.

It depends on how much of the book makes it into the movie. Order of the Phoenix was the longest of the Harry Potter books. It's difficult squeezing all that material into a 2 1/2 hour movie. Some subplots have to be dropped or condensed. We'll see what happens.

Well, the Order of the Phoenix trailer looks pretty cool. I kind of liked the fact that they got different directors for each movie. I know Columbus did the first 2, and then someone else did POA, which I really liked. Then I think someone different did the last one.

I'm with you pony, POA was my favorite so far, Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men), he put a little more forboding spin on the series tha it needed to move into some more serious subject matter. Goblet was also a pretty good flick, but I think it suffers from what all of the last movies will suffer from , which is trying to get too much book into one movie. Otherwise I don't think that having different directors for the moview has harmed the continuity of these movies.

Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite of the series of movies as well. Goblet, to me, suffered a pacing problem, an editing problem, and a condensing problem - it didn't try to fit too much in, it felt like it cut out some good stuff and then lingered too long on some not as interesting stuff. Goblet is, by far, my least favorite of the series. Now Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book in the series, and with a new director I'm hoping for the magic of POA. :)

Goblet is my favorite of the book series but Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite of the movie series so far. I know nothing of this Yates guy but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they get Alfonso Cuaron to do the last film. I know he turned down Goblet but maybe they can convince him for the last one.
