Since this latest news talks the difference between the novelized intro and the movie intro of the next film and relationships from the sixth book, I'll begin with a spoiler warning if you haven't read the book. It's not much of a spoiler but still, some of you may want to be surprised. Two new features with interview quotes and pics have popped up online for Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince courtesy of USA Today and Empire Online. As part of the latter story, which will be the lead story for the magazine's upcoming cover, director David Yates has confirmed what was rumored earlier this year.
Since the novelized version of the sixth entry by J.K Rowling was more character exposition and not action, Yates and producers at Warner Bros. have a plan to fill in the gaps. In this case, Yates confirmed to the magazine that the events/chaos mentioned in the novelized intro "The Other Minister" will visualized in the movie version. "We're opening with a big attack," director David Yates told Empire when we visited the set. "It's talked about in the book, but we're going to show it. We'll bring a major London landmark crashing down. It should be quite spectacular".
There's also some minor changes in which characters appear by the third act. For that and a new movie still, click the link above.
Meanwhile, producer David Baron talked a bit with USA Today on making the sixth movie stand out (and alone) within the other previously released installments now that they know the ending of the overall story. Yates also talked about the hormonal teen angst going on with all the relationships within the friends at Hogwarts. Ron, for his part, is overcome with romantic fervor after digging into some charmed chocolates. "He's in a daze and madly in love, which is kind of alarming to any warm body who comes into close proximity," Yates says.
Choosing action over story? That doesn't come as a surprise.
But I won't complain because I know movies have to "hit the ground running."
But, you could split the difference. Show the events taking place (which I'm all for) while Fudge has his discussion in voice over with the new Muggle Prime Minister, and then intercut in between both sequences.
I'm just glad Steve Kloves is back writing the script. "Order of the Phoenix" took too many shortcuts for my taste.
I've been pleased with all the films so far. They each have their spots worthy of complaint, but overall I think they are some of the best novel-to-screen adaptations. I just hope the movies get all the little fat children plugged into the matrix---I mean their x-box 360's to unplug and pick up the books and read. No movie can outdo the overall entertainment a book brings. After they read, they could actually go outside and play something the old-folks call physical exercise.
I'd say I'm a huge fan of Potter. What started out as a ho-hum movie series has become a really good movie series and one I look forward to. I can't wait for this to come out.
SPOILER QUESTION: So what's with the new potions teacher in movie number 6? I haven't read the books and I'm not going to until all the movies are out, but I wondered if Severus Snape finally became the Dark Arts teacher, because wasn't he in charge of potions, but in the pictures there is a new Prof.
almost, Snape becomes the Dark Arts teacher. New teacher is Slugworth (think thats his name...it's been awhile). And yes...the position continues "is it cursed?" debate.
If by best novel to screen adaptations you mean leaving a whole lot of shit out then yes you are correct, they are.
I kid, i kid. The movies are nice, I just wish they would've put up more stuff in them, make em 3 hours long a la LOTRs. Hopefully with the last book since they are splitting it into 2 films they can have everything.

I wonder since the people making the movie know how it will end, will they hint a Dumbledore's book 7 Brokeback moments.

Almost - Snape does become the Dark Arts teacher in the 6th book. May I ask why are you waiting for the films to come out to read the book? The books are way better than films, get to it.
Thanks guys for the info.

Hanso, I'm waiting for that very reason. Books are always better than the movies so I was afraid if I started reading I'd want to finish them all, so I thought I'll wait for all the movies and then I'll go read the books and still really enjoy them. If I read the book first then I'd be horribly disappointed in the movies, like I have been with so many other books to movies in the past.
Oh and thanks for not giving anything else away. I appreciate that. Not much for spoilers, but I just had to know this little tidbit.
I think you mean the 9th book, fft. :)
Rereading the series at the moment because I don't have any new purchases to occupy my reading time..About halfway through Goblet, which is basically where around the time the movies severly split off from novels.
Sure, Alfonso split somewhat in PoA but man, the fourth and fifth movies were hard to include a lot due to Rowling writing longer novels.
I liked what Yates did with OotP but I really wish they included Dobby, a more thorough explanation of the prophecy and a longer finale at the Ministry. If they did, I would have had less to explain to my sister who wants to read the novels but hasn't yet.
The directors need to explain the important details a bit better for fans who haven't read the novels yet.

But I definitely look forward to seeing what Yates does with HBP. (They better include Dobby..even in a minor 1 minute scene).

Dobby, Bill...Fleur....These omissions from the movies has me wondering about future scenes in the Deathly Hallows.
