There's new word on
THE BOOKS OF MAGIC, the DC Comics/Vertigo comic book series in development as a feature film for Warner Bros. Today it was annoucned that Swedish helmers Simon Sandquist and Joel Bergvall are now attached as directors to the project, still trapped in development hell. Numerous drafts have been penned and rejected.
The comic is about the education of a bespectacled British boy named Tim Hunter, destined to be one of the greatest practitioners of magic the world has ever seen -- the only question is whether he will practice his magic on the side of good or for evil. DC has published three series chronicling Tim's teen years as he discovers more about sorcery and fantastical creatures.
If you think
BOOKS OF MAGIC sound like it could be a kissing cousin to
HARRY POTTER, you wouldn't be the first. The first mini-series was published in 1990, well before the first volume of J.K. Rowling's
HARRY POTTER hit store shelves.
Neil Gaiman, the writer of the first
BOOKS OF MAGIC and the creator of Tim Hunter, will act as executive producer on the project.
