Discs for a strange planet and a man without fear
Fox's SOLARIS and DAREDEVIL hit DVD today By Patrick Sauriol
July 29, 2003
While it failed to attract box office when it was released last year, Steven Soderbergh's
SOLARIS may find its audience on home video.
SOLARIS tells the story of Chris Kelvin (George Clooney), a psychiatrist in the future who is summoned to the space station orbiting the faraway, dream-like world of Solaris -- and where not everything is as it appears to be.
Today is the day that
SOLARIS arrives on VHS and DVD, with the latter editionn complete with commentary by Soderbergh and the film's producer, James Cameron. Included on the disc is a "making of" special, the film's trailers and the film's screenplay. With an understated score by Cliff Martinez, great acting from supporting cast members Jeremy Davies and Viola Davis and an emphasis of drama over sci-fi,
SOLARIS is worth a second look.
Proving to be more profitable for 20th Century Fox, Mark Steven Johnson's adaptation of Marvel Comics'
DAREDEVIL swings onto DVD today as a two-disc special edition. As Brian Thomas
singled out in his weekly DVD column,
DAREDEVIL has loads of bonus material that will have comic book fans curious to check out. With documentaries, scene studies, modeling sheets, music videos, trailers and a commentary track from Johnson and producer Ben Foster, there's enough on the
DAREDEVIL disc to keep one busy for hours.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Video has priced
SOLARIS at $27.98 and
DAREDEVIL at $29.98. Both DVDs go on sale today.
