Disney announces "Toy Story 3" for 2009

According to Disney Animation president Ed Catmull and John Lasseter, Toy Story 3 is now a confirmed project aiming for a 2009 release.  Lee Unkrich, co-director of Toy Story 2, Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo will direct the film.

Michael Arndt, an Oscar nominated writer for Little Miss Sunshine, will draft a script for the studio.

"The greatest thing about the merger of the two companies is that the creators of 'Toy Story' 1 and 2 can make 3 with the story that we wanted," said Lasseter, who directed the first two Toy Story films.

KJ's Take:  Looks like Pixar will be handling the film that put them on the map after all.  Good news, and should be a great film.

Is this still the story where Buzz gets recalled back to Japan for having some kind of faulty part or are they doing something new...? I keep hearing different things on the plot and I'm not sure which one their sticking with.

Anyway, I'm glad Disney made the smart decision of making amends with Pixar... since Pixar is the Disney of 3D animation.

Nope, Pixar apparently wanted to follow Jessie's character for the third installment (played by Joan Cusack).

Disney, as I recall, wanted to do the recall on Buzz. So seeing as John Lasseter says his crew can make the story they wanted, we can expect to see the story geared more towards Jessie.

Tom Hanks has also added he will only reprise his role if Pixar is on board and seeing as they are....

This project is in good hands.

this is awesome news.... The reason they are probably going to follow the Jesse character probably has to do with Andy's little sister being around 10 oe 11 now. Andy could be all grown up.

I will add my voice to the gazillions of Pixar lovers and say this is a great day in moviedom. Toy Story, Monster's Inc, and Finding Nemo are some of my all time favorite movies, not just animated. It is really good to hear that they are in control of this property to the end. Although I have to say I don't recall any movie with a three on the end of it's title ever being that good, except maybe Back to the Future III (and they used Roman Numerals, maybe that's the secret to success ... hmmm). I know I'm " a sad little man."

jmaxx30...Lethal Weapon 3 was pretty good. And let's not forget Jaws 3...ok, I'm kidding on that one! I love the Toy Story movies, and one of the great things is that as my girl's kids have gotten older, they still love those movies as much as they did when they first saw them. Timeless, great stories. I can't wait for another story, especially now that it's in Pixar's hands.

Little Miss Sunshine was a great movie.

And why would the children have to be grown up? It's CGI, they can be whatever age they want.

Pixar is the sh*t, and disney would have been assinine to force a rift between them because I think Pixar really is the future of disney film production.

P.S. Back to the Future III wasn't that good at all. Still enjoyable, but the stanker of the trilogy by far

Im actually really ok with this one, considering the fact that the 2nd toy story should have been NEVER made or it should have went straight to video. that was such a worthless movie that im giving it more then its due because im talking about it right now.
