Walt Disney Pictures is close to picking up the spec script INVINCIBLE by Brad Gann, reports today's Variety. The screenplay is based on the career of Vince Papale, now a member of the NFL's Philadelpha Eagles but once was just a 30-year-old who took a shot at trying out for the team in an open call. Papale became the oldest rookie apart from kickers to make it onto an NFL team even though he never played college ball.

The script is being bought for Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, two gentlemen who have made their careers by producing sports underdog success stories. They were the guys behind THE ROOKIE and MIRACLE, two sports-themed films that both performed well at the box office for Disney.
