Walt Disney Feature Animation is getting back into the business of traditional animation with it's upcoming animated film FROG PRINCESS.

The studio has put John Musker and Ron Clements together to develop the film. They will attempt to put a female spin on the tale of the Frog Prince. Musker and Clements worked together to make Disney's THE LITTLE MERMAID. They also worked together on such traditionally animated Disney musicals as Aladdin and Hercules.

The film is still in the early stages of development and no real script or cast details are available as of yet. All we know is that the film will be a female twist on the standard tale of the Frog Prince.

Loooooooooooooooved Aladdin. As a straight 20 something man I can fully say I loved Disney's 2-D animation. Start singing "A Whole New World" in a car with people and they'll sing along. Thank you Disney for returning my childhood.

I can only presume and hope that this is John Lasseter taking Disney back to it's roots and returning it to the powerhouse of animation it used to be. It pained me to hear that Disney had gotten rid of their entire 2D department and I hope that now it can return and stay there. It'd be great to have another era of Disney musicals, I loved all the ones in the 90s as a younger child and would love to see more from them.

At least we're guaranteed something other that the Pixar formula in the foreseeable future. I like Pixar, but there seems to be a sameness to their films in terms of the family and moral of the story aspects.

Hope this is big, so it stays around. Also hope it's a musical. Not a big fan of musicals, but love the Disney ones.

I should have wrote ... Pixar's heads now control all of Disney Animation, both the Pixar studio's and the Disney studios. The are the ones who want Disney's studios to head abck to it's roots and 2-D animation.

My only question is, why do they need a female twist? If they wanted to do something truly new and innovative, why not have a movie where the main character's mother is a good person AND lives through the entire movie? That would be a nice change from the standard Disney film.

well well well this is welcome news! After all, who would have seen Disney's Home on the Range and Brother Bear as Disney's finaly 2D swan songs? This is unexpected and exciting news!

oberonga, Pixar flicks have heart, you probably missed that one called Finding Nemo, where a fahter desperately tries to reconnect with his son, or The Incredibles, about an entire family that goes to rescue their dad after he gets captured. not sure where the "Pixar films dont have heart" but your dad is sorely mistaken. If you wanna see CGI animated flicks WITHOUT any heart and soul, try watching Kaena or Ark or Aero Troopers or Final Fantasy: Spirits Within or Advent Children.. they are devoid of heart. (those last two will surely bring me under fire, but its my opinion. While FF:Advent Children WAS a beautifully stunning work of art, it painfully missed the mark on storytelling and plot.) no Heart... no soul. Personally I dont know what else you want in a Pixar film, they've done what... 5 feature films without a box office bomb? thats not just a good track record, thats an AMAZING track record. No heart? Nah. I have to disagree with you and your pappa.

i just didnt get your gollum referrence any more than I get your "heart" comments, but it sounds to me like you're saying CGI as a medium lacks heart instead of "PIXAR movies lack heart" however, if you present a logical argument to any Pixar animator, I think it wouldnt hold up. Those very same animators that move those "hotspots" and push those Bones and IK handles around actually at one time WERE 2d animators themselves. They bring to the table their expertise and their "individual quirks" that they applied in their 2d animations. You'll need to really flesh out this argument:"How does Mr Incredible animate any differently than say, Elastic Girl? Aside from the obvious physics that were instituted (height, weight, sex, etc), there isn't any difference between the two." because it seems obvious to me theres QUITE A BIT of difference between the two characters (actually between ALL the characters) for starters, Mr Incredible is extremely strong, but is lacking the instincts of Elasti-girl or the speed, grace and agility of FroZone and so their fighting strategies differ and complement each other. I just dont see your point.
